OJH 2019-20 Spirit Week
November 18-22
Our OJH Spirit Week will be held from November 18-22. During Spirit Week we will work together and compete as grades to serve the community through our food drive and build school spirit through our dress-up days, grade cheers and spirit assembly.
Food Drive: OUR FOOD DRIVE BEGINS BEFORE SPIRIT WEEK and runs November 13-22. Students will serve their community and earn food item points for their grade – by bringing in food items to donate. Donating most needed food items earns double points. The donated food will go to the Granite Education Foundation’s food pantries to serve hungry students and families in Granite School District. Students will turn their food items in in the commons before or after school.
Food Drive most needed items are (double points): Peanut butter, spaghetti or other pasta noodles; canned spaghetti sauce, stews, chili and ravioli; boxes of mac and cheese, breakfast cereal, granola bars, cereal bars, and pop tarts; bags of rice and beans; cans of tuna fish or chicken; canned fruit or individual serving cups of applesauce or fruit; and containers of individual servings of mac & cheese, ravioli or cup noodle soups. They are also in need of paper products like packages of toilet paper, rolls of paper towels and boxes of facial tissue. These paper items will also be double points.
Spirit Assembly: We will have a Spirit Assembly in the auditorium on November 22. Grades will compete to win Spirit Week – and there is a small grade cheer component. The competition point categories (for each grade) will be as follows:
Food Drive Total
Dress Up Days Total (Total percentage score from each day)
Lip Sync Total Score
Grade Cheer/School Combo Total Score
Lip Sync Battle Auditions: Auditions to represent your grade in the lip sync battle will be held on Friday November 15 from 12:45 – 3:00 p.m. Audition signup sheets will be available in the front office the week of Nov. 11. Only one performance from each grade will be chosen to represent their grade in Friday’s Spirit Assembly. Prepare a 2-3 minute performance with appropriate lyrics, props, and dance moves for the audition. You can choose to perform as an individual or as a group.
Spirit Week Grade Prizes:
• The winning grade for Spirit Week will receive bragging rights and a pizza and ice cream sundae party during advisory!
• The grade who earns the highest total food drive points will win a rootbeer float party during advisory – and if it is the same grade who won spirit week – they will receive both prizes on separate days.
Dress-up Themes and Daily Schedule:
Spirit Week dress-up clothing must apply to that day’s dress-up theme. Dress Code rules of modesty and safety still apply. Daily dress-up awards will be presented during Friday’s assembly. Each grade’s percentage of total students who participate in the dress-up theme each day will go toward that grade’s dress-up score. Here is the planned Spirit Week schedule:
