Dear Olympus Junior High Families,

What an incredible week at Olympus Junior High! This week we celebrated Connection Week, completed our Grit 5K, launched our first Bike Bus, and found many opportunities to strengthen the connections that make OJH such a great community. We cannot thank our PTA and the Connection Week Committee enough! This has been a remarkable week! What is Connection Week?

Connection Week – Stronger Together

Connection Week is our Olympus Junior High version of Red Ribbon Week. Throughout the week, we focused on helping students form and strengthen meaningful connections with others as an antidote to harmful choices and addictions.

We had a packed week, and we hope you’ll ask your student to tell you about some of the things they learned and experienced!

Monday – FIND Connections
Students wore camouflage as we worked to “find” connections. Our student officers introduced the acronym FIND:

Find someone new

Invite someone in

Notice things that matter to others

Do something for someone else

Students played a name game, helped create a giant 7′ x 16′ mural featuring every student’s name, and participated in a connection-themed scavenger hunt during lunch.

Tuesday – ENJOY Connections
Students came in comfy clothes and learned that having a few strong and meaningful friendships is more important than simply being popular. We talked about how, in order to have a good friend, we first need to be a good friend.

Students wrote sincere thank-you notes to people they appreciate and “heart attacked” their Advisory classrooms with sticky notes completing the phrase, “A good friend is…”

Lunchtime included games on the field, Gaga Ball, Caterpillar Walk, the Right/Left Stick game, and Move the Hula Hoop.

Wednesday – EXPAND Connections
Western wear filled the halls as students learned an important message:

“Within these walls, we are all connected.”

We don’t have to be best friends with everyone, but every student at OJH should feel that they belong. Students participated in a yarn web activity, received horseshoe keychains for their backpacks, and even joined together for some Boot Scootin’ Boogie at lunch!

Thursday – CHARGE Forward with Connections
We started the morning with music from Rocky and Chariots of Fire before taking on the Grit 5K!

Students learned that when we do hard things together, hard things become easier. After completing the 5K, students enjoyed field activities, a BBQ, and lots of prizes.

We are especially proud of the students who participated, challenged themselves, and stayed engaged throughout the entire experience. Thank you as well to the parents who encourage their students to participate in school activities and learn that they can do hard things!

Friday – CELEBRATE Connections
Students wore red as we wrapped up Connection Week with a fun bubble celebration during lunch.

A huge thank you to our PTA volunteers, student leaders, teachers, staff, and everyone else who helped make Connection Week possible. Our OJH community is incredible!

Families who would like to watch the student-created Connection Week videos can view them here:

Hello Olympus Junior High Families,

I hope everyone has had a great week! We have a lot happening at Olympus Junior over the next few weeks, including Parent-Teacher Conferences, fall athletics, College and Career Readiness Planning meetings, and one event I am especially excited about: Connection Week and our Olympus Junior Grit 5K!

Today is also a remarkable and solemn day in our nation’s history. September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. For those of us who lived through that day, the memories remain vivid, and for our students, it is now an important part of history that happened before they were born. Today is an opportunity to remember the nearly 3,000 lives that were lost, honor the courage of first responders and ordinary citizens who helped others, and reflect on the remarkable unity and compassion Americans showed one another in the days that followed. We remember.

CONNECTION WEEK IS COMING!

September 28–October 1

Connection Week is designed to help strengthen relationships, school spirit, and that important sense of belonging we want every student to feel at Olympus Junior. We feel this aligns well with Red Ribbon Week, which is when we help students form stronger connections to help them avoid drugs, alcohol, and nicotine products. Students will participate in Advisory activities throughout the week, along with a few fun dress-up days.

Monday, September 28 — Camouflage Day (hats permitted this week only)

Connection Week activities during Advisory

Wear camouflage

Girls Soccer vs. Churchill — 3:00 p.m.

Boys Soccer @ Churchill — 3:00 p.m.

Tuesday, September 29 — Comfy Clothes Day (hats permitted this week only)

Connection Week activities during Advisory

Wear comfy clothes — sweats, pajama pants, etc.

Wednesday, September 30 — Western Day (hats permitted this week only)

Connection Week activities during Advisory

Wear cowboy clothing, hats, boots, etc.

Picture Retakes — 7:30–10:30 a.m. in the auditorium

Girls Soccer @ Evergreen — 3:00 p.m.

Boys Soccer vs. Evergreen — 3:00 p.m.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1 — THE OLYMPUS JUNIOR GRIT RUN!

We will finish Connection Week with our Grit Run, followed by a school BBQ!

We will follow a Friday bell schedule

Students will report to Advisory at 12:30 p.m.

Students will leave their backpacks in their Advisory classrooms

The Grit Run begins at 12:50 p.m.

School BBQ following the run

Students are encouraged to wear their Grit Run gear

This should be a fun opportunity for our entire school to come together, build connections, and celebrate being Bulldogs!

College and Career Readiness Planning Meetings

6th and 7th grade families, our counselors are opening appointment times for parents and students to participate in College and Career Readiness Planning (CCRP) meetings.

These meetings are a great opportunity for students and families to meet with their counselor, discuss future goals, connect with available resources, and make thoughtful decisions about classes and opportunities that can help students prepare for high school, college, careers, and beyond.

If you would like to schedule an appointment, you can find the appointment link on our counseling center website here:

Our counselors will also have appointments available during Parent-Teacher Conferences next week.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held:

Wednesday, September 16 — 4:00–7:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 17 — 4:00–7:00 p.m.

We look forward to welcoming families into the school and providing an opportunity to connect with teachers about your student’s progress. Strong partnerships between home and school make an enormous difference for students, and we appreciate the time our families take to be involved.

There will be no school on Friday, September 18, as this is the compensation day associated with Parent-Teacher Conferences.

We Are Hiring!

Olympus Junior High is currently hiring a Multilingual Learner Paraprofessional.

This is a 19–29-hour-per-week position working with students who are learning English as an additional language. This person will help students access their classes and curriculum while supporting them as they become more confident and successful members of our school community. You do not need second-language skills.

If you know someone who would be a great fit for Olympus Junior, please encourage them to apply!

Comp Day – No School

Fall Sports Fees

If your student is participating in a fall sport—soccer or cross country—we have added the participation fee to their account. You can pay fees online through the Focus Parent Portal, or call our Financial Secretary, Ms. Cannon, at 385-646-3602 during school hours to make a payment.

Thank you for taking care of these fees and for supporting our student-athletes!

A Friendly Reminder for Our Bulldogs at Olympus High Football Games

We love seeing our Bulldogs supporting Olympus High and cheering on the Titans! However, we have received concerns about junior high students attending football games without adult supervision and participating in a kissing game sometimes connected with becoming a “True Titan.”

We are all for school spirit, but we think our Bulldogs can safely postpone earning their “True Titan” status for a few more years. More importantly, games involving kissing can quickly put students in an uncomfortable situation, especially when someone receives attention or a kiss they did not ask for or want.

If your junior-high student attends an Olympus High football game, please make sure a parent or guardian accompanies and supervises them. We also encourage parents to remind students that nobody should ever feel pressured to participate in a game involving physical affection. Consent and personal boundaries always come before school spirit.

Cheer loudly, wear the colors, support the Titans. Let’s keep the kissing games off the junior-high extracurricular list!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

We look forward to welcoming parents and guardians to Olympus Junior for Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 17, from 4:00–7:00 PM.

Olympus Junior teachers will be available for walk-in conferences in our Commons and Cafeteria from 4:00–7:00 PM both evenings. No appointment is necessary. Simply come at a time that works best for your family and visit with the teachers you would like to see.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity to connect with your student’s teachers, celebrate successes, discuss areas for growth, and make sure we are working together to help every student succeed. We hope you will make plans to join us.

Say BOO to the Flu!

We are pleased to partner with Community Nursing Services to offer an on-site “Say BOO to the Flu” vaccination clinic during both nights of Parent-Teacher Conferences.

The clinic will be available:

Wednesday, September 16 – 4:00–7:00 PM
Thursday, September 17 – 4:00–7:00 PM

Community Nursing Services will bill insurance for immunizations. For families without insurance, the cost is $14 per child vaccination and $35 per adult vaccination.

This is a convenient opportunity for students, parents, and family members to receive their flu vaccination while you are already at Olympus Junior for conferences. Keeping our school community healthy helps reduce illness, improve attendance, and keep students in class and learning.

Thank You, Olympus Junior Families

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We appreciate the many ways our parents and families help make Olympus Junior a safe, welcoming, and successful place for students.

We have a great couple of weeks ahead, and we look forward to seeing many of you at our athletic events and Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

We have another great week ahead at Olympus Junior! As we move further into the school year, our students are settling into routines, getting involved, and continuing to make Olympus Junior a positive place to learn and grow.

Here are a few things happening this week:

Monday, August 31

Locker Requests During Advisory – Students who would like to request a locker will have an opportunity to do so during Advisory.

A Note About Utah House Bill 402 (Food Dyes and Additives)

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Utah House Bill 402 places restrictions on certain synthetic food dyes and additives in foods served in public schools. We are pleased to share that all Granite School District breakfasts and lunches already meet these requirements. HB 402 also applies to foods and candy that may be distributed outside of regular meal service, including holiday or birthday celebrations, classroom and school incentives, prizes and rewards, and food pantries. Parents may notify the school if they do not want their student to receive food containing the dyes or additives identified in HB 402. Unless a parent chooses to opt out, students may continue to receive food or candy offered as part of classroom or school incentives and rewards. If you want to ensure your student does not receive these types of foods at our school, please let us know by filling out this HB 402 Food Dye Form

Friday Early Release Reminder

As a reminder, school is dismissed earlier on Fridays, and we ask families to help reinforce the expectation that students head home or to a planned activity after school. We have received concerns from local businesses, including Harmons, about large groups of students gathering inside and around their businesses for extended periods of time and, in some cases, refusing to leave when asked. Unfortunately, the situation has become disruptive enough that Unified Police have been called to help students leave and head home. We want our Bulldogs to be great neighbors and positive representatives of Olympus Junior High wherever they go. Please talk with your student about having a plan for Friday afternoons and being respectful of local businesses, their employees, and their customers.

Join the Olympus Junior High PTA!

We invite all our families to become members of the Olympus Junior High PTA. Joining PTA is a simple and meaningful way to support our students, teachers, and school community. If you cannot donate your time, they will happily accept a cash donation. If you would like emails and updates, joining PTA will help keep you informed. Your membership helps strengthen the programs, activities, and opportunities that make Olympus Junior such a great place for students. Please join our PTA today. We would love to have you on the team!

Dear Olympus Junior High Families,

We have another great week ahead at Olympus Junior! Our students continue to bring such positive energy to the building, and we appreciate your support at home as we work together to make Olympus Junior a place where students feel safe, connected, challenged, and excited to come to school. It is fall, and that means football! Tonight our high school, Olympus High, is lining up against the Skyline Eagles at Olympus High at 7 PM Kickoff! We hope to see many of our Bulldogs there to cheer on our Titans in what will be an exciting football game!

We also want to thank our parents and families for your patience during our recent North parking lot construction project and for working with us through the slight inconvenience it may have caused during drop-off and pick-up. The new paint on the parking stalls went down today, and the project is now complete! We appreciate your flexibility as we continue improving our campus for students, staff, and families.

Here are a few things happening this week:

Monday, August 24

Ambassador Applications Available – Students interested in serving as an Olympus Junior Ambassador can pick up an application.

Fire Drill AM – We will conduct a regularly scheduled fire drill as part of our ongoing school safety preparations.

Tuesday, August 25

Primary Election during Advisory – Students will participate in the primary election for our student leadership positions.

Interventions Begin – Our academic intervention process will begin following voting. This time is designed to provide students with additional support and enrichment based on their individual needs.

Wednesday, August 26

General Election during Advisory – Students will cast their final votes for student leadership positions. We love seeing our students get involved, take risks, and develop their leadership skills!

Thursday, August 27

Hello Day! – We will hold two morning assemblies focused on helping students build connections, strengthen our school community, and continue developing a culture where every student feels like they belong.

Because of the assemblies, we will operate on a modified bell schedule throughout the day. Students will receive information at school about where they need to be and when.

Friday, August 28

Ambassador Applications Due

Also happening next week: Our 8th-grade students will participate in YouScience, a powerful career and aptitude discovery tool that helps students better understand their natural strengths and aptitudes. The results can help guide meaningful conversations between students, parents, and school counselors as students begin thinking about future classes, career interests, and educational pathways.

Community Council Update: Four parents declared their interest in serving on our Olympus Junior High Community Council, and we had four vacant parent seats, so all four seats are now filled, and no election is needed. We are grateful to these parents for volunteering their time and being willing to serve our school community. The Community Council plays an important role in reviewing our school improvement goals and helping decide how School LAND Trust funds are used. These funds are specifically directed toward supporting students and improving academic achievement and outcomes. Our council gives parents, educators, and school leaders an opportunity to work together to determine how those resources can have the greatest impact on our students.

It is hard to believe how quickly the school year is already moving! One of the things I have enjoyed most is watching our students become more comfortable in the building, make new friends, connect with teachers, and settle into their routines.

Thank you for trusting us with your children each day. We love having them at Olympus Junior High, and we are grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.

Have a fantastic week, Bulldogs!
