Junior College and Career Readiness Meetings
Dear Juniors and Parents: It is time for your annual College and Career Readiness Meeting (CCR). We will review graduation requirements, give information about the ACT and preparation for college applications, and talk about your future goals. Junior CCRs will begin November 9 and go through December. To schedule an appointment time, please call the Counseling Center at 385-646-5421 between the hours of 7:00 am and 1:00 pm. Appointments can be held in-person, by phone, or virtually. Be sure to schedule your appointment with the counselor that corresponds with your student’s last name or with the IB counselor if they are participating in that program. Please check with your student for the best time in their schedule before making an appointment.
We encourage and highly recommend parent involvement in the CCR process. If you are unable to schedule an appointment during the times listed, we will meet with your student to ensure they have the critical information they need for graduation. We look forward to meeting with you and your student!
Granite Online Classes
Granite Online classes are available for interested students. These classes are held online and are IN ADDITION to the classes on your Skyline schedule. Enrollment is now open through April 6, 2021, with classes beginning September 4, 2020. All coursework and tests must be completed no later than May 4, 2021. Students can enroll in one quarter of a class at a time but may complete multiple quarters over the course of the school year. The cost is FREE and students can start at any time. Enrollment forms can be found in Counseling Center or on the Skyline Counseling Center website. Return completed enrollment forms to your counselor.
***Driver’s Ed through Granite Online is full for 1st semester. Enrollment is still open for other classes. ***
Seniors, if you need a letter of recommendation for your Common App college applications, be sure to personally request a letter from your teacher, counselor, or mentor. You will want to fill out the Letter of Recommendation Request Form to give to your recommenders so that they have more information about you and can write you a more detailed letter. You can find the request form in the Counseling Center or ask your counselor to email you an electronic copy. Good practice is to give your recommenders two weeks’ notice prior to the application deadline. The general University of Utah application DOES NOT require letters of recommendation. If you have already submitted your Common App applications and require a counselor recommendation for any of your choice schools, please reach out to your counselor.
Career Center Section
If any of you need help with your Parchment Account or College Applications, please come to the Career Center. We have a College Access Advisor this year, Nicole Alley.
We hope that you are all in the process of applying to College. We have just received word that some of the Colleges are extending the opportunity for free applications. These Utah Colleges that are extending the free application are: Southern Utah University, Dixie and Snow College.
We hope you take advantage of these opportunities. Deadlines for colleges are fast approaching. Please let us know in the Career Center if there is any way for us to help make your college dreams come true.
The code for Dixie is: UCAW2020 This is good until November 30.
The code for Snow College is: UCAW_2021 until November 30.
There is no code for SUU, the fee is just waived until November 30.
Students if you applied to the University of Utah using the fee waiver, please go back into your common app and take the fee waiver off for any other schools that you are applying to. On the Common App questions, go to the Profile section. Once there, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Common App Fee Waiver. Select no to that question if you do not qualify for a fee waiver.
FAFSA If you are needing help completing your FAFSA application, contact the Career Center at this time to get help from counselors and college advisors.
The next National ACT offered at Skyline will be December 12, 2020. Deadline for late registration is November 20.
Our State ACT for Juniors will be offered on March 23rd free of charge.
