Parents of Spring Lane Elementary students,
As we approach the end of the 2nd quarter of school, it is time to submit your 3rd Quarter Learning Options Form to indicate the learning modality for your student(s). This form must be turned in to the office by December 11th. The 3rd quarter begins on January 19th and ends on March 25th. Please consider your choice carefully, as your child is expected to remain in the chosen learning modality throughout the entire quarter. Depending on the number of face-to-face and distance learning students for 3rd quarter, we anticipate that we may need to make some adjustments with classroom teachers in some grade levels.
We need your help in making your choices as a family so that we can have adequate time to make any needed modifications for a smooth start to quarter 3.
For updated COVID counts at Spring Lane, click here. We have had low case counts (1-3) consistently and no school transmission since we started school in August of 2020.
You can access the Google Form below to make your selections (preferred).
Electronic forms are also here in English and Spanish.
We know this is an important individual and family decision and we will do all that we can to support your child’s academic and socio-emotional needs and we hope the information below is helpful to you. Here are some helpful steps to ensure best practices as a family for distance learning at home.
Distance learning looks somewhat different at every grade level, depending on developmental and academic abilities. Distance learning is similar but not the same as in-person learning, so online students would not be expected to be at their computer from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm. Teachers typically use a combination of video, stream, and online activities for students. Teachers will very likely record any live teaching so students at home can watch in real time, or tune in to the video at a better time in their schedule at home. There may be online small group instruction for students as well. Distance learners will be included in school and classroom communications and we will make an intentional effort to ensure they feel part of our Spring Lane community.
In-person instruction is occurring as effectively as possible, and in a very safe manner, with all health precautions being met or exceeded. Face to face instruction also mirrors distance learning, in many respects, so that if and when the need arises for a student to learn from home due to quarantine, that is easier to accomplish for teachers and students alike.
Dual Immersion: Our Chinese teachers are providing distance learners with live feed Chinese language instruction and small group times 3-5 days per week. We thank you for your patience as they are navigating teaching 2-3 and 4-5 grade classes, respectively. Our 1st grade teacher is teaching one grade level in both modalities.
All of our teachers are meeting with students several times each week, with ample feedback opportunities to both in person and virtual students, given the time allowed them during the day while teaching in-person students. Teacher contract times is from 8:45 am to 4:05 pm.
