- YouScience (career aptitudes)
YouScience is a website that helps students discover their natural aptitudes to help direct them to relevant career and/or educational pathways! YouScience has students play “brain games” to evaluate their preferences between classroom learning, future careers, and certifications.
- Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship is an arrangement where a student learns an art, trade, or job while under the supervision of a professional. Apprenticeships help students gain real-world experience in a field they are interested in! Students in Granite School District also have the opportunity to take classes and get involved with apprenticeships through Granite Technical Institute. See the following links for leads or talk with your school’s Work Based Learning Coordinator to get involved.

- Workforce
The workforce is a general term used to describe people who work for a specific employer or company. This just typically means that you choose to work right out of high school as opposed to going into the military or continuing education. A way to get involved in the workforce is finding an area you’re interested in and getting an entry-level position and working their way up. You could incorporate your apprenticeship or internship experiences to help you get a job as well. You can use the following websites to help look for jobs:
- Department of Workforce Services
- Indeed
- University of Utah Employment
- National Association of State Workforce Agencies
- Military
There are six different branches of the military (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard) all of which you can enlist into once you’ve graduated from high school. Here are the links to each military branch:
- Military Recruitment Requirements
- Air Force Recruiting
- Army Recruiting
- Marines Recruiting
- Navy Recruiting
- Space Force Recruitment
- Post High / JCVA (for students with an IEP)
For students who may need more support services through vocational rehabilitation, disability services, and community programs can use the following resources to help with job coaching, independent living skills, and college planning:
- Workforce Services Rehabilitation (Pre-Employment Transition Services)
- Utah Parent Center: Vocational Rehabilitation
- Utah Department of Health & Human Services: Services for People with Disabilities
- Service
Some students choose to do service projects after graduation to give themselves a break (gap-year) from school but still feel like they’re involved with something. Large service projects could also serve as a great filler on resumes if you plan on taking some time off in between graduation and your next steps. This shows future colleges and employers that you chose to participate in something during your time away. Some examples include the following:
