Hello everyone! Even though it was a short week, I still have plenty of updates for you, so I’ll just jump right into it.
Celebrations
Some of you saw the great news on social media, but I wanted to share it again. Mrs. Nykamp won the EXCEL teaching award that is given out by the Granite Education Foundation. She is one of nine teachers to win this award this year and we’re so happy to celebrate her! I have attached a picture from our fun assembly that we had to honor her. Did you know that Upland Terrace has had four teachers win this award?! I’d like to add congratulations to Ms. Buck, Mrs. Larson, and Ms. Wiley on their achievement of winning this award as well. Let’s keep the nominations for our amazing teachers coming and see if we can get another teacher to win for a third year in a row! I’ll make sure to send out voting links when the time comes next year.
We also had our amazing Mrs. Debbie get recognized as a true GEM (Going the Extra Mile award) this month. We love Debbie and are so lucky to have her at Upland Terrace. Give her a shout out next time you come in the office.
Parking Lot
Our parking lot has always been a mess, but recently it has become a disaster. Some parents have been parking in our bus zone as though it is an extension of the parking spots. Please remember that there should be no student drop-off or pick-up in our main parking lot between 8:40-9:00 and 3:30-3:50. The only exceptions to this rule are preschool parents and special class parents. All other parents should be using the pick-up circle in our lower parking lot, or the areas on Sunnydale Dr. with green curbs (for active pick-up/ drop off, not to park).
Art Adventures
We’re so fortunate to have such passionate people in our community who love art and want to share that love with our students. Jennifer Christensen has created an amazing art program that is taught to our students monthly. An upcoming project involves clay and the kiln and as you can image, we need some volunteers. Please click on this link if you are able to volunteer to help facilitate this fun project! https://tinyurl.com/umt2c8h4
We’re Hiring!
We currently have two employment opportunities posted on the Granite District website. One is for a custodial helper and the other is for a special education paraprofessional. We hope that you can pass along the message to anyone who may be interested in applying.
School Grounds
Some notes about being on our campus.Patrons/ community members are not allowed on our campus during school hours. Grown-ups know the rules and come through the office, but we have been having an issue with junior high students. Please remind your older children that they need to stay off of our campus while we are still in session. We are also still having a major issue with dog poop. Dogs in general are not allowed on campus, during any hours (it is posted on the fences). I know that’s not realistic, so if you can please spread the word through the community about how disruptive a poop shoe is to a student’s learning, that would be great. Did I ever think I would write the word poop three times in an email to parents? No I did not. But here we are!
