2013-2014 Goal: We will increase student learning in the area of reading from an average of 58% composite score as measured by DIBELS by 2%. We will also increase student learning in the area of mathematics as measured by Acuity or other district approved assessment tool by 2%.
With School LAND Trust Monies, we did hire additional reading and math para-educators to deliver direct instruction to support students in small groups who scored in the intensive and strategic range in reading, below level in math or ELL learners who needed instructional support. Additionally, we hired classroom substitutes for teachers to attend staff development sessions, collaborate with parents, paid for registration/travel expenses and provided materials and supplies to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills in students. Furthermore, we increased Spanish literacy opportunities for students by adding books to the library.
As a result, at the end of the year, 65% of our 3rd-6th grade students were at Benchmark (grade level) in reading. That is a 7% gain. Additionally, 57% of our 3rd-6th grade students tested on Benchmark in math, demonstrating a 15% gain.
We are grateful for the support of our State Representatives and Education Policy Makers. We appreciate them.
