We are receiving a lot of attention about the After School Satan Club mentioned in the media. We would like to point you to the District’s Official Statement on the matter.
(Read the statement on Facebook.)
“Parents and Friends – The media is getting really hyped up about a national atheist group that wants to bring an “after school satan club” program to the area. This group seems to be under the impression that another national group, the religious “Good News Club,” is receiving special treatment and special access to our school buildings and students….this is not true. NO OUTSIDE ENTITIES ARE ALLOWED TO ADVERTISE ON SCHOOL PROPERTY OR HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO OUR STUDENTS with the exception of government sponsored programs (recreation soccer, health department information, etc.).
The Good News Club has rented our facilities in the past and we anticipate that they will make similar requests in the future. Under state statute, our facilities are civic centers and we are REQUIRED to allow rental access to any entity outside of school hours or contract time. We rent our buildings to a myriad of outside organizations (religious and secular). However, none of these after school programs are district/school sponsored and the programs rent space in buildings as the law allows. None of the program entities are allowed to disseminate materials in our schools or to our students.
This “after school satan club,” must, by law, be treated like any other outside entity. If they want to rent a facility after hours and the building is available, they will be permitted to do so. This rental does not permit them to solicit our students or advertise on school property…it is simply rental access to space in the building.
As you can see below, the media is buying into the hype this organization is attempting to generate. We have not endorsed any private entity’s activities, nor will we do so in the future…but if we have space available, the law requires that we provide access to it at a reasonable rental rate. So let us know about your next family reunion…we may be able to accommodate you!
