April 6, 2020
Dear Parents,
I commend you for all your efforts in helping your children with online learning. This hasn’t been easy but the teachers and I appreciate all you are doing to help with ongoing education. The teachers are working very hard to provide relevant content. I’m proud of their efforts to hold regular ZOOM classrooms and the way they are creating engaging presentations through Nearpod and other apps.
Thank you for supporting your children and our teachers in their great efforts to stay connected to you.
Just a few reminders:
- The playground is closed as per the Public Health Department. Please honor that directive.
- This week will be the last week we serve meals at Vista. You can continue to pick up meals at Taylorsville Elementary (2010 West 4230 South) or Plymouth Elementary (5220 South 1470 West). Lunch and breakfast will be combined and served from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- The PTO Fundraiser has been interrupted due to social distancing. We need to collect all the Papa Murphy Pizza cards and any donated money you have. We have planned a quick drive through at the school on Thursday, April 9. Please come between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., drive up, and a volunteer will take your coupons and money. Thank you so much for supporting our PTO. The money raised supports all the great activities they sponsor throughout the school year. Our PTO members work really hard to provide wonderful experiences for our students. Think about volunteering next year – we need you!
- Digital Report Cards will be available on the District website in approximately two weeks. Enter through the Portal, select your student, and click on Report Card.
A Note of Concern:
Only about 50% of our students in every classroom are participating in online learning. This is a concern because we have the final term ahead of us and grades must be given. Final grades for the year will be poor if students are not logging in, participating in classroom meetings, or completing work. In addition, they will not be fully prepared for the next grade when we return in the fall. We want all our students to keep up with online learning. If there is anything we can do to assist you, please contact your teacher or the office. We have distributed hundreds of Chromebooks to our students. If you did not receive one and feel like it would be of benefit, please make an appointment to come in and check-out a device.
In case you are missing being in the building, I am sending samples of student artwork on display for you to enjoy. These creations make me happy! We miss your children and can’t wait to have them here again.
Sincerely, Dianne Phillips (Principal)
