Dear Parents,
At a news conference today, Governor Herbert announced that all Utah schools will continue with online learning through the remainder of the school year. I understand this places an extreme burden on you and your family. We wish the situation was different, but it is so important that we continue to maintain healthy and safe practices. Our teachers miss their students and I know your children miss their teachers and friends.
We are all facing many frustrations with this current online learning process and I totally understand. We will continue to work together to make this a productive, engaging learning opportunity for your children. But the message I would like to send to you and your students today is that school and learning are still happening. Parents please encourage your children to continue to work hard and do their best to complete assignments. There is a temptation at this point to relax our learning efforts and not take these learning opportunities as seriously as we would if our school was open. I strongly encourage students to keep putting forth their best on assignments and lessons. Echoing the words of our State Superintendent, “We want student to be ready and adequately prepared for the next level of learning they will face when we return to school.”
I want to thank parents for all your support and patience through such a time as this. I have spoken to many of you and know that you are facing incredibly challenging situations as a result of this pandemic. If you have problems or issues with online learning, please reach out to your child’s teacher. You can also contact Mr. Nelson, our assistant principal, or myself. We are here to help and support you through email, phone calls, or online visits.
Our teachers need to be commended for their efforts to support student learning. I get emails throughout the day and night that show they are collaborating and working together to provide quality lessons and activities for our students. They are working diligently to assist parents with the new online procedures and technology. I am proud and honored to work with each of these amazing educators here at Vista.
As a reminder, Vista is no longer serving grab-n-go breakfast and lunch. Food continues to be provided at Taylorsville Elementary and Plymouth Elementary between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Please take advantage of this free service.
I am confident we will get through this as stronger, better people who are more focused on what is truly important. Stay healthy and stay safe
Sincerely,
Dianne Phillips
