The Latest Principal’s Message: 8.23.19
Dear Parents and Students,
Please reread as some dates have been changed and added.
School Community Council Elections
We are currently accepting Declaration of Candidacy forms for our School Community Council. We have 3 open positions this year. We would love for you to get involved. Here is the Declaration of Candidacy form. The due date is August 30th by 3:00pm. The role of the Council is to appropriate Land Trust Funds, assist with the school improvement plan and many other vital issues. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:45am for an hour. Please come get involved in an important aspect of Wasatch Jr. High.
Drop off/Pick up
We had a pretty good couple of days with the drop off and pick up. The main concern we see is U-turns directly in front of the school or dropping students off on the east side 3100 east. Remember we are trying to have 3100 East be a one way street (going north to south) during drop off and pick up times. Administration and police will be out helping to direct traffic, but we could use your help in slowing down, being watchful, safe and considerate of others. This will help with safety and efficiency. Please watch this video for dropping off and picking up of students. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxYnV0U4qmA
Back to School Night
New this year we will be having a Back to School Night on August 28th 6-8pm. There are 4 purposes for this evening: (1) for parents to meet their students’ teachers and ask questions of them. (2) A 15 min presentation of Proficiency Based Grading (PBG) in the Auditorium. All of our teachers in our school will be grading using this method in preparation for implementation for all junior highs in Granite District the 2019-2020 school year. (3) Teach students and parents how to access Canvas and Gradebook. This will be done in the library. (4) Prepare you for Parent/teacher conference format (Student Led Conferences).
The fall sports are: Soccer, for both boys and girls and X-Country (long distance running –1.5miles) for both boys and girls. Both will begin on August 26th after school. X-Country will consist of 4-5 meets and a District Championship meet. Soccer will be intramurals for 3 weeks in which any student that wants to play can. After 3 weeks, an All-star team, boys and girls, will be chosen in which they will play 6 games against other junior highs in Granite District.
