Our SBOs and PTSA put on the greatest Spirit Week and Red & White Ribbon Week in recent memory. What a terrific week that reminded our Mustangs how much control they have over their own lives and their own choices. Don’t miss the highlights.
This week, West Lake achieved one of its biggest milestones in its rich history. In 2015, West Lake was identified as a “Turnaround School” after receiving a D letter grade under the School Turnaround and Leadership Act. I am pleased to announce that the students and teachers of West Lake STEM have just exited the turnaround program by achieving a B letter grade.
The Utah State Board of Education identified West Lake as one of the top five in the state that showed the most growth since identification as a Turnaround School. This is a remarkable achievement that should make every Mustang incredibly proud. Congratulations on a job well done!
We are West Lake!
Students can earn 2 CRAZY Points per class period for filling out their objectives and assignments in the correct box in their planner. To collect the CRAZY Points you’re entitled to, use your cell phone to fill out the following Google Form and take a picture of your planner pages.
We invite all 7th grade parents to sign up for a college/career planning meeting with your student’s school counselor. Click on the banner above to access the online scheduler. The password is Mustang. This meeting can be critical for strategizing the next few year’s of your student’s growth and development.
At West Lake STEM, we try, fail, and try again until we succeed. Nothing helps us along that journey more than your feedback. Please take a moment each quarter to provide your input.
We are looking for submissions to our Literary Magazine right now! The first issue will come out at the end of October, so we’re looking for scary stories, poems, art, or anything you want to submit. We are accepting submissions in English and Spanish.
Our first Mustang Roundup of the year will be on Wednesday, September 26 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The main event is a back-to-school-night type presentation addressing your student’s present levels and things you can do to help your student set a new personal best this year.
You also have the option to come between 4:00 to 6:00 PM if you would like to meet individually with any of your student’s teachers. To help facilitate short waits, please sign up for an appointment time with any teacher you wish to meet using the scheduler below.
We’ll also be firing up the grill with some delicious hot dogs, so don’t miss it!
We’ve had many outstanding tryouts from our Mustangs to be on the 2018-2019 Dance Company. Thank you for your effort and bravery. You’ve exemplified the very best of what it means to be a West Lake Mustang.
The students who have made the team for the 2018-2019 school year are included on the list below. Congratulations!
Serving on the School Community Council
Serving on our School Community Council is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to contribute and help improve academic performance at our school. The school receives an annual dividend from the school trust lands. Our council decides how these funds will be used. The council reviews and prepares other academic plans for our students each year. All plans are reviewed for final approval by our school board. Councils also act in an advisory capacity to school and school district administrations.
Every public school in Utah has a School Community Council. The councils are made up of school employees who are elected by employees and parents who are elected by parents of students attending the school. Membership terms are for two years. Elections are held at the beginning of each school year.
Parent members must have a student attending the school at least one of the two years of their term of service. Employees must be employed by the school district at the school. For more information please visit www.schoollandtrust.org.
