The Greatest Show is 2018’s installment of the M-Games and focuses on helping each and every student set a personal best on the end-of-year SAGE test. The event is broken into two parts. Part 1 runs from February 15 to March 21. Part 2 runs from March 21 to May 19.
We kick off the games by having each student review his or her performance on the end-of-year SAGE tests in Language Arts, Math, and Science over the last three years. Based on those numbers, students set a personal-best goal.
To prepare to achieve a personal best, students work on a weekly progress chart designed to help them perform to their best abilities. Students keep organized through a daily use of their personal planners, enhance their reading fluency and comprehension through daily reading, increase their math fluency through IXL practice, keep organized with weekly binder checks, and meet school expectations to be curious, respectful, accountable, and zero-quitting. Each Thursday, students summarize their performance on these five indicators using the attached Google Form.
Students who complete at least four of the five indicators in the week are eligible to participate in the week’s M-Games reward activity.
Not only do the M-Games focus on a student’s personal best, but they also set the stage for our school’s personal best. By setting a school best on two of the three indicators (Language Arts, Math, or Science), students qualify for the M-Games STEM Rising Festival on May 18th. If the goal is achieved, students will have their choice of twenty-four different activities during each of the five periods that include games, a movie in the auditorium, teacher-generated activities, a color battle, and a dance in the gym.
The second half of the M-Games: Greatest Show involves our final reviews and the moment of truth . . . the SAGE test itself. For the final reviews, students team up to participate in language arts, science, and math competitions.
Their scores are posted each day on posters in the hallway to show which teams and which classes are doing the best. The winning classes for each grade level earn a donut party, and the winning teams earn up to 1000 STEM CRAZY points at the Mustang Market.
The M-Games: Greatest Show review tournament leads directly to the actual SAGE test that we have prepared for throughout the entire year. SAGE testing takes place over eight sessions beginning April 17th in which we will be on a special testing schedule. The entire school will spend the first hour and fifteen minutes working on their SAGE test on these eight days before resuming their normal five-period schedule.
The SAGE testing is a special opportunity to prove to yourself just how much you’ve grown through your hard work this year, and we want to make this experience feel special. The following two slides describe some highlights of our SAGE testing plan.
Some of the most worthwhile incentives during SAGE testing are the Progress Charts, the QR Code Mystery Motivators, and the M-Games MVP Recognitions. Each of these are meant to reward students for their efforts to work their hardest to set a new personal best on the SAGE tests. The QR Code Mystery Motivators are particularly fun because they contain a mystery prize that you can redeem during lunchtime the very day you receive it.
That’s it! That is all you need to know about this year’s installment of the M-Games. It’s all about preparing yourself to set a new personal best. We’re proud of the work you’ve done this year, and we’re excited to see that hard work pay off. Good luck in this year’s games! We look forward to this being, quite literally, the Greatest Show!
