October 7, 2020
Parents of Woodrow Wilson Elementary students,
THANK YOU to the parents who have submitted their Learning Options Form already. We appreciate your promptness.
As we approach the end of the first quarter of school, it is time to submit your 2nd Quarter Learning Options Form to indicate the learning modality your student(s) will engage in for the 2nd quarter. Please return the attached form to your teacher or the office by Friday, October 9, 2020. This form is also available on the school website and can be downloaded and emailed directly to Mrs. Christensen at cbchristensen@graniteschools.org.
The second quarter begins on October 26th and ends on January 14th. Please consider your choice carefully, as your child is expected to remain in the chosen learning modality throughout the entire quarter. Depending on the number of face-to-face and distance learning students for 2nd quarter, we anticipate that we may need to make some adjustments with classroom teachers in some grade levels. We need a response for every student even if you are not changing their current learning option.
Expectations for Distance Learning Students and Their Families
Please know that if you choose distance learning there are a few expectations for your students that we need you to be aware of:
• Log in online or access your printed materials every day
• Contact your teacher with any questions through email or during their office hours
• Read directions carefully and discuss them with a family member to make sure you understand
• Keep assignments and tasks organized so you can easily access them or submit them
• Contact the teacher/school staff to answer questions about accessing materials, instructions for an assignment or technical problems with software or equipment
• For online learning, practice accessing online resources using the GSD Portal
• Set a schedule and space to help stay focused on learning and complete tasks
• Students must be submitting work regularly and attending class online meetings (if applicable). Please know that if your child is not participating it does count against their attendance record and is tracked.
Expectations for Distance Learning Teachers
There are also best practices that are expectations for our distance learning teachers to follow.
- Teachers will check in with their distance learners on a regular basis.
- There will be opportunities for students to interact with their classmates and teacher as a whole group, small group, or one-on-one, but the frequency and duration will vary by grade level and teachers.
- Teachers will assess distance learners regularly to give feedback communicate growth
- Teachers will communicate office hours for students and parents to reach out for assistance
I hope this helps to clarify any questions that you might have. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions at 385-646-5102.
Sincerely,
Christine B. Christensen
