The students at Genesis Youth Center got to experience a bit of reality with Reality Town, a simulation of the complexities of finances in real life. Students are assigned a job with a fixed salary, familial circumstances, and strive to figure out how to handle all of the typical expenses of life as they face the “reality” of the costs of living. It’s an excellent lesson in understanding the difference between “needs” and “wants.” Thanks to Carol Goulais and Lee Marchant for coordinating this valuable opportunity, and to the many volunteers involved in this project. It was an honor to have Murray Meszaros from the Utah State Board of Education attend and support the event.
