We have exactly six weeks until the first day of school! Wow!!
For those of you who have driven by the new school or watched it’s progress on our STEM School Rising videos, you know how fast the contractors and architects are working. I’m astonished at the progress they’re able to make each week with over a hundred workers on site each day. Even with these great efforts, however, time is running short, and we will be opening our doors before we know it. Here are a few thoughts of what to expect with the start of school.
There will be plenty of bumps with our new building. Many parts of the project likely won’t be completed by August 21st. We should expect to not have access to all the rooms or areas of the property right off the bat. Wireless internet, HVAC systems, copy machines, SMART Boards, TV monitors, pencil sharpeners, projectors, flag poles, tables, stools, chairs, cubbies, pianos, document cameras, lunch tables, rugs, washers, dryers, laminators, clocks, toilets, garbage cans, paper shredders, marquees, benches, iPads, supplies, manipulatives, books, and phones leave a lot of room for error and slim chances of everything working perfectly immediately. I can almost guarantee some level of frustration on the part of teachers, parents, and students along the way.
But, there’s a pretty worthwhile trade off to the whole thing. Because I get a sneak peek on a weekly basis, I can say that, although It’s not there yet, this building will be the most magnificent elementary school I have ever set foot in. I beg everyone’s patience and flexibility as we get through a bumpy start knowing full well years and years of a gorgeous facility awaits us on the other side.
