The start of 2014 is a great opportunity for a review of the parking and drop-off/pick-up expectations. I want to say a huge thank you to the Armstrong patrons for helping this run as smoothly as possible and for helping us improve constantly. We’ve settled into a rhythm of having everyone on their way within fifteen minutes of the final bell and often it’s as quick as twelve minutes.
To help the process go even smoother, here are a few reminders or suggestions:
- Please follow the signals or directions from any employees or volunteers in orange vests.
- Please refrain from using the north parking lot as a drop-off/pick-up zone for your students. That parking lot is reserved for faculty parking and school-bus loading. All supervision is concentrated on the south parking lot, so we have considerable safety concerns with students heading the other direction.
- Use the left-hand lane for through traffic and the right-hand lane for drop-off and pick-up. Feel free to wait in the right-hand lane if you arrive before the bell rings, but please don’t leave your vehicle unattended.
- When driving in the left-hand, through lane, please be courteous and let those from the right-hand lane back into your lane when they are ready. This opens up additional drop-off/pick-up slots in the right-hand lane.
- Use the entire perimeter of the horseshoe shaped drop-off/pick-up zone. In the spring, Granite paint services will add the lane markers to the south portion of the loading zone, but, in the meantime, use two lanes just like the north portion of the horseshoe.
- Please don’t ever drop off or pick up students from the left-hand lane. This stops traffic and forces students to run into the middle of the road.
- Please don’t use the handicap parking stalls without appropriate handicap placards in the window or on the license plate.
- Please remember that State Law prohibits anyone from parking or loading within 20 feet of a crosswalk. These areas are often marked off with cones.
- Please drive slowly and cautiously. The speed limit in front of our school is only 25 mph. In this case, please drive 5 mph slower than the limit rather than 5 mph faster. The speed limit in the parking lot and loading area is only 10 mph.
Thank you, again, for helping us make the parking lot and loading zones as smooth and safe as possible. Above is a map that helps summarize what to expect in various areas. If you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions, please send them to ahowe@graniteschools.org.
