Next week (during SEP conferences), every student will receive a report on his or her reading ability based on the Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS Next) reading test. This assessment helps us determine which students are reading below grade level, so we can determine if a student is in need of interventions to assist him or her in reading.
On the most basic level, look for one of three colors: green (benchmark), yellow (strategic), or red (intensive) to summarize your student’s reading fluency. Those receiving a yellow or red score are not reading at grade level at this point of the school year, and we want to provide the appropriate interventions at school and at home to help them increase their reading fluency. The report (called the mClass Home Connect letter) will provide a good explanation of the reading level as well as provide recommendations for things you can be working on at home.
If you have any questions regarding the report, please contact the classroom teacher or Mrs. Lessey (Armstrong’s literacy coach) for more information.
