Well . . . If you follow the news at all, you’ve surely heard that the SAGE results were released yesterday. How did the Armstrong students do? Well, let me tell you!
First, a little background. The passing score for SAGE is more challenging than any prior test, and it was anticipated many students would receive lower scores than they did in the past. This was reflected throughout the state as only 41.7% of Utah students were considered proficient in Language Arts, 38.7% were proficient in Math, and 43.7% were proficient in Science. With a more challenging curriculum and proficiency goal, it’s not surprising the first year means fewer students are proficient.
Taking that into consideration, these Armstrong students really hit it out of the ballpark when compared to the district and state averages. At Armstrong, 49.2% of students were considered proficient in Language Arts, 56.9% of students were proficient in math, and 53.3% of students were proficient in science. Armstrong students finished among the very top schools of Granite School District and were an absolute stand alone when compared with any school in the district with similar demographics.
A few highlights included 4th grade math (8th highest in the district–out of 63), third grade language arts (7th highest in the district), 6th grade science (4th highest in the district), and 5th grade math (the ABSOLUTE highest in the district–by almost 5 percentage points).
Way to go Eagles!
