For the April meeting of the Armstrong Community Council, members of the council approved what is called the SNAP, or Safe Neighborhood Access Plan. It is essentially a plan the shows the safe walking routes to school for those Armstrong students who use their feet to get to school. It attempts to get students to follow a route to schools that utilizes the safest sidewalk routes that also include crossing guards at busier intersections. You can see the map by going to armstrongacademy-dot-org, click on “about our school, then look down the menu for “safe walking route.”
Looking ahead to next year, the community council will include seven parent seats and three for school employees. That shift from the current makeup of six parents and four school employees. Three parent seats will be up for election for the 2015-16 school year. If you are interested in seeking one of those seats, please check the Armstrong Academy website over the summer.
Finally, the council discussed developing partnerships between area businesses and Armstrong Academy. These partnerships are ones in which interested businesses would be willing to donate materials, money, or experts in their fields to make presentations to Armstrong students, particularly in the STEM fields. Any parent at Armstrong is encouraged to purse these partnerships if they are so inclined. If you have any questions or need guidance about such efforts, please contact Mr. Howe.
Parents are also asked to indicate their preference in a survey on how a district-provided one-day-a-week fine-arts specialists should best be used at Armstrong. Please view and take the brief survey at armstrongacademy-dot-org and click on “principal’s blog.”
The next meeting of the Community Council is Thursday, May 14, 4 p.m., here at the school. As always, anyone is welcome.
