At the Granite Board meeting on Tuesday night, Mr. Goebel was appointed as the new principal of Rolling Meadows Elementary, effective July 1, 2014. We at Armstrong are very sad to see him leave, but we are also very excited for this great opportunity for him. Mr. Goebel is beloved by students and teachers alike. His easy-going, service-oriented demeanor makes him an individual all are drawn to. Rolling Meadows is very lucky to be getting him, ...
SAGE End-of-Year Testing Has Begun
Our 3-6 grade Armstrong Eagles have returned from their spring break and jumped right in to the end-of-year testing. This is the moment all students have been working toward throughout the entire school year and (more intensely) since the opening ceremonies of our Armstrong Games. Each student is working to establish a new “personal best” on the end-of-year testing, and to take individual ownership in showing what each has learned this year. ...
End-of-Year Testing
As we’ve discussed in relation to our Armstrong Games, the end-of-year testing is quickly approaching. Students will participate in the SAGE writing test beginning immediately after the spring recess (see schedule below). For a sampling of what these tests are like, please visit the practice tests available by following the link on our website. Not long afterward, students in grades 3-6 will participate in other SAGE assessments to measure ...
Excel Outstanding Educator
Mrs. Farnsworth (3rd grade) was recognized this week as one of ten Granite Education Foundation Excel Outstanding Educators of the Year this week. Early on Thursday morning, various members of the Granite Education foundation, the media, and even Superintendent Bates popped in on Mrs. Farnsworth’s class to surprise her with the good news! Congratulations, Mrs. Farnsworth! The award is so well deserved! Armstrong is very lucky to have ...
Regional Science Fair Winners
The Armstrong Science Fair took place in January, and it was a fabulous success. Hundreds and hundreds of young scientists engaged in the scientific method on a problem of their own choosing. A few winners in our upper grades were chosen to represent Armstrong in the Granite School District science fair in February. Now, we even had two Armstrong students chosen to represent Granite School District in the regional science fair at the ...
Boundary Development/Parking Lot Thank You
Most people have seen the many building projects going on in the boundary of Neil Armstrong Academy, including the apartment complex being built immediately to our west. Some have (understandably) wondered what these new developments might do to the student numbers at Armstrong. Because of some excellent work by the Granite District and Boundary folks, I have an answer for you. The new developments will (obviously) bring new students to the ...
Armstrong Games 2014 – Limbo
We are now a few weeks into the Armstrong Games, and we’ve had our first Olympic Event. Students showed off their limbo prowess during last Friday’s event. Needless to say, the students’ shorter stature was an unfair advantage to Mr. Howe’s 5 foot 16 inches of manliness! Students participated in the event if they had completed their weekly personal training chart. The items on the training charts are intended to help students do their ...
Spring
Students and teachers at Armstrong are currently engaged in (quite possibly) the most worthwhile stretch of the school year. This is the time when students are solidifying the concepts they’ve worked so hard on all year and are gearing up to own what they know and to take great pride in their own accomplishments as they demonstrate their accumulated level of proficiency on the end-of-year testing. As we come out of the cold, dark winter months, ...
Armstrong Greenhouse
One of the most unique labs at Armstrong is just getting rolling. The Armstrong Greenhouse, located on the east side of the campus, was the last thing finished during the building construction and didn’t see much use in the fall. Now, however, Armstrong teachers and students are taking it for a spin for the first time, and we’re extremely excited for the many possibilities it holds. We’re also looking for a few added supplies for our ...
Community Council
Community Councils play a very significant role in improving student achievement in each local school. By sharing their unique perspectives and expertise, parents, teachers and administrators have a wonderful opportunity to address the critical academic needs of the school! The charge to analyze data, identify needs, set goals and align resources—and then report back on progress– establishes Community Councils as providing front-line ...
