Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation at helping our parking lot run as smoothly as possible. On most days, I see the last car drive away within 15 minutes of the final bell ringing. For a school of nearly 700 students, this is no small feat, and I attribute it directly to our patrons. Please remember, the large horseshoe perimeter of our south parking lot is a pick-up/drop-off loading zone. Please do not leave your car ...
Halloween 2013
The 2013 Halloween Parade will begin at 8:50 on Halloween. We encourage all parents and family members to come enjoy the parade with us. Families should find a seat in the multipurpose room to see their student(s) pass by. The multipurpose room is the final location along the parade route, so you can expect to see your student some time after 8:50. Please remember, Granite District policy prohibits weapons, toy weapons, or look-alike ...
Gift from Boeing
Boeing was onsite yesterday and made a generous donation to our new library. During the 1st grade library time, Boeing delivered several boxes of new books they had purchased for our school. And, they went one step further by taking the time to sit and read many of the new books to the excited 1st-grade students. We want to say a big thank you to Boeing for the much-needed donation and to the Granite Education Foundation for helping to make ...
Flex Time
At Armstrong, we’re focused on four fundamental questions regarding student learning. They are: What do we want our students to learn? How will we know if they’ve learned it? How will we respond if they don’t learn it? How will we respond if they already know it? These questions help us turn from a focus on teaching to a focus on learning. To answer the final two questions, each grade has begun a daily block of time known as flex time. ...
PTA Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who helped support the PTA fundraiser during these past two weeks. We’re pleased to announce it was an extremely successful fundraiser and brought in much of the needed funding for a brand-new PTA. The students finished with a grand total just under $12,000. For this fundraiser, 100% of the money stays with the school’s PTA and helps support the many great programs and activities the PTA sponsors including field trips, ...
First Community Council Meeting
The Armstrong Community Council met for the first time last Thursday in the school library. The meeting began with the council appointing Ben Johnson as the council chairperson and Michelle Eberly as the council vice chair. After an overview of Community Councils and LAND trust funds, the discussion turned to how to allocate Armstrong’s LAND trust budget for the 2013-2014 school year. Many options were considered, but the focus seemed to ...
Armstrong T-Shirts and Hoodies
The new Armstrong T-shirts and hoodies arrived yesterday, and the students couldn't resist putting them on immediately. Within minutes, the school was flooded with blue and white. Thank you, PTA, for your work designing and ordering the first Armstrong paraphernalia. They turned out great! ...
Walk-to-School Day
Wednesday marked Neil Armstrong Academy's first Walk-to-School Day event. A big thank you goes out to the PTA and Becky Crowther for all the work they put into organizing the event. Students were encouraged to walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus to school. Additionally, a "ride-and-stride" event took place for individuals who wanted to park at the local Target and walk in a parade together to the school. The parade was led by the newest ...
mClass Home Connect Letters
This week (in the Wednesday Folders), every student in Armstrong should bring home a report on his or her reading ability based on the Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS Next) reading test. This assessment helps us determine which students are reading below grade level, so we can determine if a student is in need of interventions to assist him or her in reading. On the most basic level, look for one of three colors: ...
$5,000 and Counting . . .
Congratulations to the Armstrong students for surpassing $5,000 in the PTA Dance-a-thon Fundraiser. They've earned a "Crazy Socks" Day for tomorrow. Also (and I'm not at all happy about this), they've earned the opportunity to toilet paper Mr. Howe's and Mr. Goebel's offices. That should be a sight! ...
