The Mighty Armstrong 4th Graders spent the majority of their day last Thursday visiting Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake on a field trip. This Field trip establishes a powerful foundation for the 4th-grade science and social studies curriculum the students will work with during this school year. The students and teachers had a great time (a highlight being the brine-shrimp search down in the lake), and they all returned thoroughly ...
12-Year Anniversary
Today marks 12 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. For an elementary school, that’s a pretty interesting number. 12 years old is the age of our oldest students. That means (with exactly 10 days of an exception) none of the students in our school were alive on that day. Obviously, if our students don’t fully comprehend the details of 9/11 yet, someday they will. My hope is they’ll also be able to understand the tremendous ...
Comings and Goings
In just the few weeks since the new school year began, we’ve begun to get a great rhythm to our drop-off and pick-up routine. Thank you to all the parents, students, safety patrollers, and volunteers who have helped it go so smoothly. A few reminders to keep us on the right path: Please don’t drop off your students while you’re stopped at the crosswalk waiting to turn in. Also, please don’t leave your car unattended in the loading zone. ...
A Library!
The "Jewel of the School" is nearing completion. Over the weekend, carpet was laid in the Armstrong library. On Monday, the book stacks were moved into place and promptly filled with the first-ever Neil Armstrong Academy library. Students will be in the new library as early as next week. We're very excited! ...
Above and Beyond
Now announcing the Above and Beyond bulletin! You can expect to receive this bulletin each and every Wednesday. The Above and Beyond will feature the comings and goings of Neil Armstrong Academy and keep you informed of important events on our horizon. Additionally, we’ll highlight the outstanding achievements of our students. Thank you, everyone, who helped make the start of our new school such a success. For none is this more true than ...
A New Mascot
Eight months after the STEM school was named, the students of Armstrong Academy were ready to make history. Each student arrived at school on Friday prepared to cast a vote. Although parents and other community members were encouraged to help with the brainstorm, the students alone made the final decision. The runaway winner tips its hat to Neil Armstrong’s famous words upon landing on the surface of the moon: “The Eagle has landed!” We are ...
Welcome Kindergarten
The Armstrong student body made sure the newest members of our school felt welcomed and at home when it greeted the new Kindergarteners with applause in the main commons area of the school. The new Kindergarteners had big grins as they entered. ...
Up and Running!
Well . . . Neil Armstrong Academy is officially up and running! Wednesday, August 21st marked the first day of a new school year and a new school. During the first hour of the day, parents and students were invited to enter the building for the first time and get a good look around. We still have plenty to do to finish up our facility (tile, sod, kitchen equipment, etc.), but we're thrilled to have the show on the road. ...
Lockers and Locks
With the start of school, many questions have come my way. One in particular seems to warrant an answer for everyone since, if you haven't asked it yet, you probably will soon. That question has to do with locks on the lockers. As you're probably aware, Neil Armstrong Academy has lockers lining the hallways instead of coat hangers in the classroom. Of all the cool things put into this new building, students may be more excited about the ...
The First $5,000
We want to say an enormous thank you to the Balmoral Home Owner's Association for a partnership bringing in $5,000 to the Armstrong weather station project. The weather station will most likely come together in pieces, but, in the long run, we're looking for 24 more such donations from companies that would like to help sponsor this. If anyone works for a company that would like to be a part of this, let Robert Goodick (rggrvp@comcast.net) know. ...
