Welcome to Neil Armstrong Academy 2021-2022!
Hello, and welcome to another great year here at Neil Armstrong Academy! Whether you are returning or new to the school, below you will find some very important information about the upcoming school year.
- The First Day: School starts on Monday, August 16th for grades 1-6. Kindergarten will start on August 19th. School starts at 8:35 am and dismissal is at 3:20 pm. Click HERE to see the complete bell schedule.
- Class Lists: Class lists are available on our website and are posted on the glass on the front of the school. Click HERE to see the class lists. Important: If your student does not appear on the class lists, we are missing something from your registration. Please contact the office during our business hours to complete registration.
- Back to School Night: We will be holding a Back to School event on Thursday, August 12 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. You are welcome to come and tour the school. Many of our teachers will be here with useful information about the coming year. All are invited to attend.
- Line Up: Click HERE for a map of where each grade lines up in the morning. Students are expected to wait patiently in their lines until their teachers come to bring them into the building. On the first day of school, teachers will be on-hand to direct students to the correct line.
- Drop Off and Pick up: Because we have students from all over the valley attending here, many students arrive by car each day. We have a large drop off area that is separated by alphabetical order. Simply drop off and pick up your student from the zone that corresponds to the student’s last name. The more we spread out, the safer it is for our students and the more smoothly the traffic flows. Please click HERE to watch a short video about drop off procedures. (Start at minute 6, as some of the information in the video is outdated.)
- ABC News: Each week, the school publishes a video called ABC News. This is posted on our webpage and can also be found on our YouTube channel. For the first episode of the year, I would love to have pictures of how our students have spent the summer. If you would like to have your student or family featured in this episode, please send me a (meaning 1) photo of what you did over the summer. It could be a vacation, hobby, or special event. Please send the photo (again meaning 1) to jsorensen@graniteschools.org by August 12th.
- QR Code Challenge: As a fun event to start the year, we have an annual QR code scavenger hunt called “Where in the World is Buzz the Armstrong Eagle.” Starting Monday the 9th of August, I will send a picture out over text message to all the families in the school. The pictures give clues as to where a QR code is hidden. Families then track down and scan the QR code for points. The faster the student gets there, the more points they earn, and the more people who scan it, the more the code is worth. Students with the highest number of points after 5 days will receive prizes and be featured on ABC News. The texts will go out at 6:00 pm each evening for five days starting Monday the 9th of August. Good luck eagles!
- COVID 19: There have been many updates to our procedures for COVID 19 safety from last year. Please refer to our COVID plan which is posted on our website for more detailed information. The Health Department has also released new guidelines which may be seen on their website. Here are some important notes:
- Masks are strongly encouraged but not required. Due to new legislation, we cannot enact a mask mandate in our school. This is fluid and may change depending on new developments with the virus, but for the time being, there is no mask mandate in place. We STRONGLY recommend that students wear masks at school as research has clearly indicated that masks are very effective in limiting the spread of disease. No harassment or persecution of students who choose to, or choose not to, wear a mask will be tolerated.
- We will continue to implement rigorous cleaning procedures. Hand sanitizer will be readily available. Social distancing will be maintained as much as is reasonably possible.
- Drinking fountains are still turned off. We encourage students to bring a water bottle so that they may stay hydrated. We will be providing a water bottle for every student, but they are welcome to bring their own.
- I will be holding a Q and A session for all parents on August 10 (Tuesday Evening) at 6:00 pm over Facebook Live. I am also happy to answer any questions via email.
- Help Wanted: We have several positions for paraeducators, recess duties, nutrition workers, and a PE specialist available. If you are interested, please reach out via email or call the office to learn how to apply.
I am so excited to see everyone back at school. We have missed you and look forward to getting back to the action. Have a great day.
