Hello Everyone,

We have been directed from School Leadership and Improvement to refer parents to the ‘Parent Portal’ to see Report Cards for Quarter 3.

There are two ways they can view their students report card:

Help documents for both of these options are attached. Feel free to share with whoever will need them. I also attached Parent Portal Initial set Up instructions, if needed.

1. Clicking on the Student Center tile, this will show the actual report card .
2. Clicking on the Gradebook tile, this will show their grades, just not in the report card format.

NOTE: Grades were post on Saturday, March 28^th in the Gradebook portal. Report cards won’t be available in the Student Center until all corrections have been made in Discovery. This will be done by Tuesday March 31st, 2020. Report cards will be available to view then.

Dear Parents:

We hope everyone is doing well and know that we miss you!  We are encouraging everyone to be on google classroom and in order to help students and parents at home during this new May 1st dismissal period, Bacchus will be implementing the following:

The hours for packet drop off and packet and/or Chromebook & GoMath book pick up will be every Monday from 8 – 2:00 pm until the dismissal ends.  This will take place in the gym/cafeteria.  

We ask that you be cautious and practice safe social distancing while picking these up.  If you absolutely cannot come on Mondays from 8-2:00 pm, you can make an appointment with the office to work with you to pick-up and drop off your materials.

If you are having trouble logging on to your Chromebook or having trouble with assignments, you need to first check to see if you are connected to your internet at home. If you are, then you need to contact your teacher for help. We appreciate your patience during this unprecedented time.

The district has informed us that our school wifi is strong enough to be accessed in our parking lot.  You are welcome to come to the school to access the internet if you want.

Dear Parents and students of Bacchus Elementary,

First and foremost, we hope you and your families are doing well.  We know this can be a challenging time for families and we want to be of support to you. 

Our teachers have been working here at school to create distance learning modules for students in each grade.  We have the support of our district and each other for this new adventure in learning. 

• We have three options available for student learning through March 27^th. 
  • Digital learning on personal devices – students have access to technology (internet, computer, printer, tablet, etc.) at home already. 
  • Digital learning on school device – students have access to the internet at home but need to check out their Chromebook they use at school.  This requires parents to complete the checkout/waiver form.
  • Hard Copy learning – students do not have access to the internet at home so they need paper/pencil learning. 
• Learning at home materials will be available for distribution Wednesday, March 18^th. This is when students and parents can come to the school to pick up materials including a Chromebook if they choose.  We encourage all who can to participate in the digital learning with technology options. 
  • Materials can be picked up at Bacchus between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:30 pm.
  • Taking a Chromebook requires a parent to come check it out.
• Teachers are preparing purposeful activities and assignments that review previously taught concepts for this 2 week dismissal time.  Work will not be assigned for the 3 days of Spring Break.

Hello parents and students,

We want you to be aware of the plan at Bacchus to provide FREE breakfast and lunch to any child  <19 years of age during the school dismissal.  Our kitchen staff will be working their regular shifts to prepare “grab & go” breakfast and lunch.

• Breakfast will be served from 8:00 am to 8:30 am Monday thru Wednesday this coming week. 
• Lunch will be served from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm Monday thru Wednesday this coming week.  

Students will enter the cafeteria thru the side doors, pick up their meal, and exit through the front doors.  The meals are to be taken home and students will not be allowed to eat in the school or on school grounds.   We will stagger the rate at which students enter the building if need be to minimize the contact of people.  

Our teachers are working Monday and Tuesday to prepare online and hard copy learning modules for students to be able to continue learning at home.  On Wednesday, materials will be available for distribution to students.  We will send another update once we have complete information as to how this will take place.

Please know that Bacchus staff and teachers care about your children, our students, and your families.  We appreciate your support and patience as we all work through this unique circumstance.  We are sure there are many questions you have and we will work to communicate answers to those questions as we get them.  Please feel free to email me with your questions.

Dear Granite School District Patrons and Employees,

As with the NEWLY announced guidance from the Statewide Coronavirus Taskforce, Granite District will immediately implement a districtwide 2 week dismissal. Please review the entire message as it will likely answer the bulk of your questions. Additional updates will be made available on our homepage at www.graniteschools.org and on our social media channels.

This is NOT a closure. These are preventative measures to help reduce the spread of disease. This recommendation will continue to be evaluated and further adjustments could be made with ongoing guidance from State and Local Health officials.

Effective immediately, students will be dismissed from daily attendance, returning Monday, March 30th. A school dismissal is defined as students do not report to school, but facilities remain open and staff report to work as normal. School will continue for students, but on a digital and distance platform.

-On Monday and Tuesday, teachers will prepare to teach in the new platforms.

-All teachers and other employees (including hourly) will report to work at their normal contract time and adhere to appropriate social distancing measures. Teachers would be in classrooms to prepare to provide resources and materials for digital and distance learning.

-Starting Wednesday, March 18, schools will initiate digital and distance instruction. Parents and students who do not have access to technology or a device at home, may come to the school to checkout a chromebook (which will require wifi access at home). Parents will need to sign a checkout form in order to obtain access to a device. Hardcopy learning modules will be made available for students who do not have access to the internet at home. Students will not be required to come to campus once digital and distance learning is initiated. We will not be able to accommodate student usage of school internet during this dismissal.

-As always, the expectation is that students will be accountable for the work assigned and we ask for parents to work with their teachers and children through this non-traditional circumstance. Retakes, assignment turn-ins and so forth will be coordinated with teachers through canvas, email or teacher work phone (please do not text teachers).

-School locations that provide breakfast will continue that service in a Grab and Go service at pickup times that the schools will specify.

-Grab and Go lunches will be provided for ALL students. These WILL be available on Monday, March 16 through Wednesday, March 18th, and after Spring Break. Students will NOT be able to eat their meals on campus. Schools will provide specific information on pickup times through your school’s traditional communication tools.

-Spring Break dates for our District are still applicable (Thursday, March 19th – Student Non-attendance day. Friday, March 20th-Monday, March 23rd – Spring Break). Meals WILL NOT be provided during the break.

-All other additional school sponsored activities are canceled for the next two weeks. This includes extra-curricular activities and other sports practices.

-There will be NO supervision on school property including playgrounds and playfields.

-Student internships and other external programs are canceled for the next two weeks.

-Adult Education courses are dismissed but the testing center will remain open with appropriate restrictions. Please contact the testing center for information at (385) 646-5447.

-ALL preschool classes are canceled.

-Family Engagement Centers are closed.

All activities and events previously canceled are still canceled. ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE for specific employee groups is forthcoming.

We recognize that this has been a tumultuous few days. As always, our decisions are made with the expertise and guidance of State and County Health Departments and we will continue to keep you up to date as this dynamic situation unfolds. Thanks for your ongoing patience and support as we work to keep our students and employees safe.

Granite School District

Dear Granite School District Patrons:

First and foremost, as a school system, we exist to support our families and communities. Many of you have reached out seeking permission to keep your children home. This is NOT our decision, but yours as parents and families. We are committed to support you and your decisions by continuing to provide educational opportunities for those who are currently attending and those who remain home. We have been given guidance to schools and teachers to be flexible regarding absenteeism and support all students with opportunities for distance learning and online options in addition to current in-person instruction. As such, if you feel your children should stay home, please do so and we will support your decisions.

There is some confusion regarding the guidance that came from the Governor and his task force in yesterday’s press conference and what was said later in the same press conference. Below are quotes from that press event with specific guidance to schools from State Superintendent Sydnee Dickson.

“We want to make sure that we do not close schools unless there is an imminent threat to our children and the adults who serve them,” …Our situation is different than that of higher education. To all district and charter schools: Please do not attempt to close a school unless your local health officer is directing you to do so. Closing a school out of anxiety or fear, and not because a health officer deems it necessary, can have ripple effects, not just throughout your immediate community, but throughout the entire state.” -Sydnee Dickson, State Superintendent

As of this morning, our guidance from the Salt Lake County Health Department indicates that there is NO imminent threat to students and staff and we should remain open. Their guidance goes on to indicate that , “NOT having children in school may increase community exposure, as those children may visit entertainment and other community venues.”

We are hearing rumors nearly from every community that there are confirmed cases in their specific schools. This is FALSE. As of this morning at 10 a.m., there are NO confirmed cases in Salt Lake County. Statewide there are 5 confirmed cases (Davis: 1, Weber-Morgan: 1, Summit: 1, Unknown [Jazz players]: 2). There is no confirmation of “Community Transmission,” at this time. Community transmission is defined as cases popping up with no discoverable source. Community transmission is the trigger for the health department to direct lots of restrictive steps. It is a trigger that has not been pulled, but we are prepared for it should it come to that.

The Health Department has asked us to emphasize several messages as follows:

If you are ill with respiratory symptoms, don’t visit a hospital or clinic without calling first to receive instructions, or consider utilizing a telemedicine service. If you are healthy but have questions or concerns, DO NOT visit a healthcare facility—“worried well” individuals are flooding healthcare providers with COVID-19 concerns, and exhausting health care resources for those who are truly in need. Instead, call 1-800-456-7707 with questions or concerns or go to www.coronavirus.utah.gov.

CLARIFICATIONS:

Yesterday we reported a mixed message regarding the transmission of coronavirus. We want to clarify that information and regret any confusion we may have caused.

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Can someone spread the virus without being sick? While the risk of transmission is very low for individuals who are not demonstrating symptoms, it is still possible. Please see CDC information on this topic here— https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/transmission.html

This continues to be a very dynamic situation which could change rapidly. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate.

Granite School District

Granite School District has hired Lighthouse Research, an independent survey company, to conduct a survey concerning grade reconfiguration in the Kearns Network.  They will be conducting this survey in the coming days, with a random sample of homes in your school boundary.

We ask that you take a moment to go over the attached packet to familiarize yourself with the process and school visions.  If contacted, please take a moment to complete their short survey to give your opinion concerning reconfiguration.

Thank you to all who joined us for our Back-to-School Carnival last week. We had a great night of fun activities and spending time together. We hope to make this an annual event!

We are entering our final week of our Papa Murphy’s Pizza Peal-a-Deal Card Fundraiser.  We are encouraging every student to sell 1 card.  Each card sells for $10 and we keep 90% of the money!  There are incentives for selling 1, 5, 10, 15, or 20 cards.  Each class will keep 10% of what they sell for an end of school year celebration.  If we reach the goal of $2,000 students will be able to wear hats at school one day.  If we reach $4,000 students will all receive extra recess time.  If we reach the goal of $6,000 select students will get to Silly String Mrs. Monson!  Money will be used for additional field trips, positive student behavior activities and student incentives.  If you are needing an informational flyer or selling log, please contact the office and we will send another one home with your student.
