School Happenings

During the evening of March 15^th, parents and students had a opportunity to celebrate art at our school.  In the weeks prior to the event, each student had an opportunity to create a piece of visual art.  These art pieces were displayed in the halls for all to enjoy.  This year our students have been participating in dance with our Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Specialist, Miss Goodrich. Classes from each grade level learned a dance representing a different country and performed in the gym.  All students participated in the creation of our “Bacchus Dragon” which hangs from the ceiling in the lunchroom.  The evening ended with our band and orchestra students performing.  It was a great night and we appreciate all who attended and support their student’s work at school.

Can you believe we have reached the half-way point of the school year this week? We are engaged in our DIBELS reading assessments this week and students will complete their mid-year benchmarks before the end of the month. We’ve been working hard at school to learn and we hope you are discussing with your child their work at school.

I am happy to let you know that we were able to have an air quality sensor installed on our building last week. This will allow us to use an accurate reading to determine the air quality for outside activities. You can access the reading by going to KSL.com and clicking on the weather tab. At the top there is an orange bar that reads, “live air quality” which you will click on. When the map opens, locate the Bacchus Elementary dot by scrolling over the dots.

The first quarter of the school year has come to an end and it has been a great experience for me being the principal at Bacchus Elementary. I have learned much as well as enjoyed the experience.

I have come to Bacchus after 22 years of teaching in Granite School District. I began my career at Hunter Elementary and moved to Taylorsville, Elk Run, and Lincoln Elementary schools. My experience has been teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Last year I was an assistant principal at Gourley and Morningside Elementary schools. My spare time is spent with family, crafting, and enjoying sports.

This time of year causes me to reflect on the things for which I am thankful. I want to share just a few of them with you. I am thankful for students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give me a daily reminder of what is important and why I became an educator. I am thankful for dedicated teachers and staff who go above and beyond to make sure that great things happen at Bacchus. They do make a difference, and each child, in their own way, benefits from their efforts. I’m thankful for a staff that cares about each other as well as their students. This school has teachers, aides, secretaries, support staff, and administration who really care about students and have their best interests at heart.
I am thankful for volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to the students at school. Perhaps most importantly, I am thankful for parents who trust us with their children and support us in our efforts to create a strong, active partnership with them in providing their child with the best education. Being an involved and supportive parent demonstrates to your child that you value their education and they work they do at school each day. Together we can develop greater self-confidence in each child and help them on the road to being positive contributors to our community.

Together, we make our community an ever-better place to live and work, and a continuing reason to be thankful.

Please remember the front of the school is our designated drop off/pick up area.
• Two Lanes
o Lane A by curb is for drop-off and pick-up.
 Pull forward until the car in front of you has stopped
 If the car in front of you has stopped, you may load or unload
 If the car in front of you moves forward, please move forward
 Driver must stay in vehicle; no parking or waiting with children in the car in either lane at any time
o Lane B near parking stalls is for drive-through only.
 No loading or unloading
 Turn left onto Lodestone Avenue or right onto Copper City Drive when in Lane B
• After parking in a parking stall, please cross at the crosswalk to pick up your students. Safety patrol and teachers will be assisting students across the crosswalk.
• Please stop when pedestrians are in the crosswalk
Please follow the following safety guidelines if dropping off or picking up students on Copper City Drive.
• Crosswalks must be used to cross Copper City Drive.
• Cars must face the correct traffic direction.
• You must pull over to the curb before letting students out of the car. You cannot stop the flow of traffic to stop and let students out.
• Students should exit car on the curbside.

KUED Family Literacy Night

Come join us for a night of fun and hands on Science! Learning is so much fun and it is even better when you can dig right in. Join KUED and Bacchus as we bring Science to you and your family! It will definitely be a fun night to remember!

APTT (Academic Parent Teacher Team) night!

We are excited to see you all here that night from 6:00-7:15 PM.

Sessions for your child’s class will be from 6:00-7:15 PM and held in your child’s classroom.  If you have more than one child, select one child’s classroom to participate in for the entire presentation.  At 7:15 PM, you will then go to each of your other children’s classrooms to receive the other skill activities. You are welcome to invite other adults (aunts, uncles, grandparents, older siblings and friends) to attend in your place.  Each grade level team has identified key grade level skill activities that you will be able to use at home.  The meetings will cover the following:
 A review of student progress
 The establishment of academic goals
 A demonstration of activities to use at home with your child
 An opportunity to work with other parents from your child’s classroom to build community

We had a wonderful assembly on Friday morning. It was a Creature Encounter experience to remember! It was fun, exciting and nerve racking for some! Here is a video that sums up the assembly! Thank you Creature Encounters for coming!
