Dear Families,
We are in our final quarter of the school year! We are eager to share our school’s goals with you. Teachers, staff, and students have been working hard on the following:
-At least 75% of students will meet or exceed their math and reading goals, making at least a year’s academic progress.
-At least 65 students in grades 3-6 will pass the Utah RISE Assessment. (English Language Arts, Mathematics, & Science)
-Students will attend school regularly, missing no more than 2 school days per month.
We are planning several fun celebrations this spring as we meet our attendance goals. In February, Utah Jazz basketball tickets were rewarded to one student in each class for having perfect attendance. In March, students with perfect attendance got to choose a fun, new sports ball. In April, we are giving away six new bikes and three scooters! In May, students with perfect attendance will enjoy a special lunch and extra recess.
If students meet or exceed academic goals, we will celebrate with a huge school-wide party in May, as well as silly events with the principal, assistant principal, and teachers. Watch for information soon about getting slimed, wearing a dinosaur costume for a day, and even kissing a pig!
Families can help in the following ways:
-Make sure your child attends school every day. Children should only stay home if they have a fever or are throwing up.
-Ensure your child gets enough sleep. More than 8 hours is needed for school-age children.
-Limit screen time, encouraging reading and outside play.
-Follow up with your child’s teacher regarding your child’s behavior. Impose logical and fair consequences if your child is a disruption in the classroom.
-Ask your child to talk about their school day and the world around them. Instead of asking “how was your day?” ask them to share their favorite part of the day, tell you something interesting they learned, or share how close they are to meeting their math or reading goal. Ask your child to answer questions on their own and become deeper thinkers.
Thank you for your continued support of Hillsdale. Together we can hep our students to be happy and successful at school and in life.
Study. Overcome. Achieve. Rise!
