January 9, 2026School Happenings

Temperature Rule:
Students can come into the gym in the morning @ 8:40 AM and are kept inside from recess when the wind chill (feels like) temperature is 20 degress or below.

Air Quality Rule:
AQI over 150  (PM2.5 above 55.5): all students are kept inside. AQI between 100 and 150 (PM2.5 between 35.4 and 55.5 ): students with documented asthma or chronic lung issues are kept inside. PM2.5 Below 35.4 and AQI below 100 – All students stay outdoors. We use www.air.utah.gov to verify.

Building Use:
School hours for students are 9:05 AM to 3:40 PM. Students are encouraged to be at school. Students should not arrive earlier than 8:40 AM. Students are allowed into the gym on the mornings of inclement weather.

Inside Morning (School Drop-Off)
:
Students will come inside in the morning beginning at 8:40 AM if the temperature is between 20 degrees or below. Students should enter through the north side door that will be held open for them. They will go and sit in the gym until the bell rings. A green flag indicates inside day which is hanging near the south and north drop off. Students will be dismissed from the gym one class at a time and will maintain hallway expectations on their way to the classroom.

Recess:
All students are expected to go outside on good weather and good air days at recess times. Students will be kept inside for recess when the wind chill feels like 20 degrees or below, or there is rain/snow falling consistently.

Be Prepared:
The average temperature in Salt Lake County during the winter months is 40 degrees. Creating and engaging in winter play activities, even in the cold months, is fun for students and promotes better health by increasing exercise by using different muscles, getting fresh air and getting the essential vitamin D exposure, just to name a few. For your child to have a great time in the cold weather, the most important
thing to consider is appropriate clothing.

Cold Weather Clothing Suggestions:
• Mittens or Gloves
• Hats
• Scarfs
• Snowpants
• Warm socks
• Boots
• Long sleeve shirts
• Long pants
