Valley Junior High
2014-2015 October 20, 2014
Valley Junior High identified English Language Arts and Math as our areas of need for improvement. Our action steps in English Language Arts were as follows:
- FTE will be used to reduce class size in English Language Arts classes.
- Students will be identified using 2013 CRT scores as well as SRI and Acuity scores to place students in smaller classrooms for more structured presentation of Common Core Essential Concepts.
- Student groupings will be re-examined at mid-terms and the end of each quarter to ensure success of all students.
SAGE assessment scores from the State were not available at the time of this report. We have used Acuity and SRI scores to look at our performance The English Language Arts assessments show an overall increase of about 4% from the previous year. Scholastic Reading Inventory Scores show 53% of students made growth as measured by reading lexile scores.

- FTE will be used to reduce class size in Math classes.
- Students will be identified using 2013 CRT scores as well as Acuity and Digits scores to place students in smaller classrooms for more structured presentation of Common Core Essential Concepts.
- These classrooms will be equipped with Smart Interactive Boards to allow students to manipulate ideas and items in conjunction with the Digits program.
- Student groupings will be re-examined at mid-terms and the end of each quarter to ensure success of all students.
We also added two Math Aides to work with students during the 45 minute extension time and create a Math tutoring program at lunch.
Once again, SAGE assessment scores have not been released. We have used Acuity scores to look at our performance. Post-Test averages rose from an average of 35% in 2012-13 to 40% in 2013-14.

We would like to thank the Utah Legislature for the ongoing support of LAND Trust money and the difference it makes in individual schools. As we align curriculum and assessment with more rigorous common core standards, the LAND Trust grant money is an even more valuable resource.
