Attending Parent Teacher (SEP) Conferences is an important part of letting your child know education is important to you. Below are a few things you can do to help create an even more beneficial conference.
- Talk with your child before conferences about any concerns or questions. Ask what he would like you to talk about and what he thinks the teacher will say.
- Think about questions you would like to ask and jot them down. some suggestions might be grade level curriculum, homework expectations, work habits, social skills, attendance, and home support.
- Share items you want the teacher to know about your child such as outside interests, medical concerns, or special needs.
- Keep an open mine – remember both you and the teacher want your child to succeed.
- After the conference talk with your child about what was discussed. Emphasize the positive and discuss a plan to make needed changes.
- Keep in touch with the teacher. E-mail is a quick and easy way to communicate between home and school. Be sure you exchange e-mail addresses.
