Academy Park is just one of thousands of schools around the world participating in Computer Science Education Week. We kicked off our week by participating in a school-wide Code-a-Thon. Each classroom completed one hour of code in their classrooms. Some classrooms completed unplugged activities, some worked with robots, others used Code.org online activities to learn the basics of coding.
What is ‘coding’? It is how we communicate with technology to program it to do something. Learning how to code means that students are learning the language and skills that computer programmers use to build apps, games, and other functions on devices. Coding helps students think critically, problem solve, use grit, and think in algorithms. Our teachers and students love this time of year where we can focus on the “new” literacy.
