After we return from Spring Break, we will begin taking the RISE (Readiness, Improvement, Success, Empowerment) Assessment. RISE is the end-of-year summative assessment for third, fourth, and fifth graders. It is an item-adaptive test meaning that if students correctly answer questions, the test gets more difficult and if students incorrectly answer questions, the test gets easier. The RISE has depth of knowledge questions which require students to give written answers as opposed to only answering multiple choice questions. The RISE uses many onscreen tools.
We have and will continue to spend some time at school preparing for this testing format so students become more familiar with the line of questioning and utilizing the tools. It will be helpful if you will also practice at home. To access the practice tests from home, use either a Firefox or Google Chrome browser and visit utahrise.org. Click on the Training Tests button. There are varying grade levels available to practice. It is wise for students to practice harder questions from higher grade levels to become more acquainted with the testing format.
While the results from this test are very important, it is only one measure of how our students are progressing. Our school works extremely hard at keeping up with current educational trends so your children will be prepared for advanced levels of learning. We appreciate all your efforts as we know it takes a whole community to raise the future generation.
