Happy New Year!
Crestview wishes you and your family the best 2024 year ever and we appreciate your support! We look forward to working with you and your children to have a successful school year! Attendance is critical for our students to succeed in school and creates positives habits for their futures. We also encourage 20 minutes a night to read aloud together with your child. Make it FUN and read with emotion and expression. Also, don’t forget to practice math facts and concepts when the opportunity arises in real life experiences. Now that we have debit cards and digital clocks, our students don’t get enough practice counting change and telling time! Enjoy these precious moments together, as our children grow up too quickly!
Late Start or Distance Learning Days
If serious weather conditions or other issues arrive, Granite District may shift gears to a late start, or a distance learning school day. If we have a distance learning day, each teacher will contact parents concerning how to navigate the distance learning day by 9:00 am. Some teachers already sent home paper packets of work in advance. Some teachers will have online learning, and some with have the option of both paper packets and online learning. Teachers are available from 9:00am to 3:20pm on a distance learning day.
Weather and Arrival Times
Please have you children wear appropriate clothing for the winter weather…it is cold outside! Also, if your child is eating breakfast, please do not drop them off before 8:15 am. For all other students, please arrange for them to arrive on the school grounds between 8:25-8:35 for their safety. If it is a seriously cold/rainy/snowy/poor air day, students will be allowed inside at 8:25. Bus students may enter the cafeteria if the busses arrive early on an inside day. Surprisingly, even under these conditions, many students prefer to be outside! We live in a cold climate, prepare your students to be outside for many winter days. If your child is in the “sensitive group” for air quality, please notify the office and your child’s teacher.
Principal’s Notes
I want to wish you all a happy and healthy 2024! We have had an excellent first half of the school year with many amazing learning and extracurricular opportunities for your children to participate in. A huge thanks to our teachers and PTA for all they do for our students! I look forward to getting back into our routines at school, and focusing on academics as the end of year testing will quickly approach. It is always exciting to get a fresh start to the new year and to set behavioral and academic goals. Continue to love, play, and read like crazy with your kids! You ALL make Crestview an amazing place!
PTA Corner – January 2024
We are so thankful for each volunteer who made December so successful! We had an amazing Holiday Shop and were able to raise a great deal of money to go to families in need. We had a great All Pro Dad meeting. And we also were able to support the Holiday Sing Around.
We hope you’ll consider signing up to join our PTA this year. Your membership builds community, strengthens classrooms, and funds school programs and local and nationwide education advocacy initiatives. Come join us! Sign up or donate here – https://crestviewcougars.memberhub.com/
January will be a pretty quiet month on the PTA front. We do hope you’ll join us for our PTA meeting on January 11th at 10am. We also will have an All Pro Dad meeting on January 18th at 7:45am.
A note from the PTA Nominating Committee –
We are so excited to start the process of putting together the PTA Executive Board for the 2024 – 2025 school year. Serving on the PTA Board is a great way to get involved at the school and advocate for students. If you are interested in serving in one of the positions listed below or know someone else who is, please fill out the attached candidacy form and turn in to the front office or send to Amaryah Cannon, the nominating committee chair, by January 31. Her email is: amaryah.cannon@gmail.com
You are not required to have prior PTA experience to serve in a Board position, but you do need to be a PTA member. You can join PTA by going to: https://crestviewcougars.memberhub.com . Current Board members can serve a second term if desired and upon election by general membership. Open positions include: Three (3) Vice President positions and a secretary. Each position serves a two-year term.
During these colder times of the year, it is easy to pass sickness around. If you’re not sure when to stay home, we’ve updated our sick student handouts for your reference information from the Utah Department of Health, CDC, U.S. DHHS and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Please see below links for more information-
Fundraiser
We appreciate everyone who supported our fundraiser and are excited to announce we met our goal! The top sellers had a great time “Squirting Silly String on the Principal.” The funds help our teachers and students to obtain necessary supplies and finance school activities. We also appreciate all those who donate in many other ways with their time and talents. Purchased products from the fundraiser will be delivered to the school on December 7. We will send more information about pick up times and the option of sending products home with students.
December Events
We are excited to announce we will have a Holiday School Sing Around and parents are invited on December 20th. Kindergarten through second grade will perform at 9:15. Third grade through fifth grade will perform at 10:00. Having two separate performances will help elevate parking congestion and an overcrowded gym. If you have children in both upper and lower grades, you are welcome to stay for both performances and there will be a 15 intermission in between performances.
We will also have our annual Holiday Shop the week of December 4th. An email was sent November 20 to explain the details. This is a very fun event for students and helps support families in need during the holidays.
The Importance of Mindfulness for School Aged Children: Especially during December!
Mindfulness is a practice for students and adults to be aware of their emotions and to practice calming strategies such as breathing slowly, counting, and being aware of thoughts. Each classroom is taught mindful strategies by Becky Farley weekly. There are apps available as well to practice Mindfulness. Please ask your child to share strategies they have learned to use when they feel frustrated or stressed.
Lost and Found
Please stop by and check the lost and found for missing items. Near the end of December, we donate all the items to charity.

Principal’s Notes
Wow! What an incredible year of spectacular events happening at Crestview:
The Peter Pan play was amazing and took a village of parents and staff to support our students. Thank you to all who came out to see the show, including our superintendent, Dr. Nye.
The ribbon cutting for the new Mike Suarez playground was a monumental event supported by our community. The students’ cheers of excitement and the thrill of running to the new playground was a moment of pure joy to watch.
The Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day brought out the best in our students and reinforced kindness to all children.
The monthly All Pro Dads is also a wonderful event to attend as well.
Thank you, PTA, for all of the support you give to our teachers, students, and the community.
I love being the principal of Crestview and wish you all to have an enjoyable and peaceful holiday season.
PTA Corner – December 2023
It was a busy month on the PTA front. We are so thankful for each volunteer who made this month so amazingly successful. We had an amazing Reflections showcase where we were inspired by student’s artistic entries about feeling hope. These students are incredible!
We also participated in the national Ruby Bridges WALK to School event! Students learned more about Ruby Bridges in school and about the importance of inclusion, unity and youth activism.
We were WOW’ed by this year’s school play production of Peter Pan Jr. Our amazing directors – Jacci Halliday, Andrea Mouritzen and Rachel Thorup – put in hundreds and hundreds of hours to help these students be able to be a part of such an amazing production. These students were absolutely magical!
We also celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new playground at Crestview – The Mike Suarez Playground. Mike was previously a student at Crestview who required the use of a wheelchair. Our previous playground was not ADA accessible – and we were committed to make an inclusive playground. And it happened! We are so grateful!

The Halloween Parade was fantastic! Our students really enjoyed the varied activities and classroom parties. Thank you to ALL of the parent volunteers.
Principal’s Notes
To be happy is synonymous with being grateful. November is a wonderful month for our families to reflect on what we are grateful for each day. As I contemplate the things which I am thankful for, I feel much more lighthearted, and am reminded of what wonderful colleagues, friends, and family I have as well as the beautiful state we all live in. I am especially thankful for the opportunity to be the principal of Crestview and am developing wonderful associations with the staff, students, and parents. I always appreciate the relationships and kind words which are a part of our Crestview community. You are all wonderful people and I gain so much from each of you. Parents, you have amazing children and I appreciate all you do for them and the school! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends and enjoy every moment together.
