We were so excited to have Channel 4 at Rosecrest to film on the first day of school. As I think about that, I feel a reminder is needed if you wish to opt out of any filming that is done at our school. Student Privacy Rights is signed on the back of the Registration Card. This is what it says, “I am aware of the student privacy rights (FERPA). If I choose to opt out of these, I understand my child will be eliminated from class and individual pictures, recognition lists, musical and theatrical programs, any video or photographs, and any other documents related to school-sponsored activities. I understand that to opt out I must submit a letter to the principal within ten days of the start of school, otherwise my child will be included.” Please do send in a letter letting me know if you want to opt out your child in the above listed activities.
Also, we are trying to use less paper and resources by going paperless. One attempt at doing this was using Sign Up Genius for classroom volunteers. These volunteer sheets are posted on our school’s website as we heard so often that the information of who had volunteered was hard to get. If you do not want your information posted, I need to know right away and we will remove it. We checked last year as to whether or not people cared about their information being posted, and no one did. We plan to make this common practice.
Please know I welcome your feedback regarding this practice and all other areas of our school. We must be a team united in effort for students to succeed.
