Hello wonderful Rosecrest community. We are so sad that the students will not be able to return for all of the traditional & fun end-of-year activities.
This post is an attempt to answer some Frequently Asked Questions regarding school being dismissed through the end of the school year. We have collaborated with the PTA and the School Community Council to answer the following questions:
When will the students be able to pick up their personal belongings? The teachers are working in their classrooms to bag up student belongings. Students will come to the school on May 8th to pick up their items. Here is the plan:
Students and families will come around to the back of the school (cafegymatorium), staff will meet students at the doors, get names, go find their bag and hand the bags to the students. We will need to stagger the arrival times to minimize crowd size and promote social distancing to the greatest degree possible. Please do not allow children to play, hang out, or loiter on the school property, sorry.
6th grade: 8am
5th grade: 9am
4th grade: 10am
3rd grade: 11am
2nd grade: 12pm
1st grade: 1pm
Kindergarten: 2pm
How long will we be doing school work from home?
Teachers will continue to assign important school work and learning activities through May 15th. There will be some activities, paper/pencil assignments, etc. during the final week (May 18-22) with more details to come.
When will we return Chromebooks?
The exact date has not yet been determined but it will be during the week of May 18-22.
When will we return books to the Rosecrest Library?
Please bring all library books to the school on May 8th. Mrs. Tanner will be here to check in library books.
How will 4th quarter grades and reports cards be handled?
Teachers are grading all of the assigned school work using the regular Proficiency-Based Grading format. 4th quarter report cards will be unique – all grades will be either Pass or Incomplete, citizenship grades and comments will not be issued. Parents may request a 1-4 grade in place of the Pass/Incomplete grade if they wish. Report cards will be mailed out in early June.
How are the students doing with learning from home?
While distance learning is proving to be very challenging for teachers and parents alike, we should be proud of the success the Rosecrest kids are experiencing. Rosecrest has been tracking the activity and learning of each student. 94% of Rosecrest students are completing “most or all” of their assigned school work each week. We have to thank the parents for this success. We recognize that this number would be much lower without significant parent support. Rosecrest is committed to not assigning any more school work than is necessary to keep the students progressing. Teachers have narrowed down the curriculum and assignments to just the most important items. In turn, we ask that students and families do not give up. Please keep up the hard work and high effort until the very end!
What about a parade?
The teachers and staff really miss seeing the students and want to have a chance to say goodbye. We have not yet done a parade due to sensitivity to virus safety protocols. We anticipate the virus situation improving and being able to do a good-bye parade during the week of May 18-22. It will be so good for the students, parents, teachers and staff to have a chance to say goodbye.
What about 5th & 6th Grade Promotion?
The school has collaborated with the PTA to come up with a plan to make promotion as memorable as possible given the current circumstances. The promotion will be done via video. Each student will be writing a speech as part of their assigned school work. A few speeches will be selected to be part of the promotion. Each student will get a t-shirt and their promotion certificate when they come to pick up their belongings on May 8th. When students get their t-shirt and certificate they will have a chance to individually take one last walk down the Rosecrest halls and have their picture taken. These pictures and speeches will be combined into a promotion video.
What about the Wizard of Oz play?
We are still hoping to be able to perform the play in early summer. It may be with an audience, it may be without an audience on video. The important thing is that the kids get a chance to perform the play that they worked so hard to prepare. There are still a lot of things up in the air and no decisions are final. We will see how the virus situation progresses and make a decision asap. Keep your costumes!
Are we actually coming back to school in August?
All signs indicate that we will be able to return to regular school attendance for the new school year. This a fluid situation and things could change but at this time we are planning to be back in August.
