Hello Rosecrest Families!
At the end of this week, we will have reached our one month mark of being in school! I wanted to reach out and let you know about some of the things that are happening. We are doing our best to modify some of our traditions so that they can safely continue this year.
Limo Lunches
The Wasatch Lawn and Memorial Park Mortuary reached out to let us know they are happy to deliver Arby lunches to the school since we are not able to take limo rides at this time. This is so generous of them! Students who are selected for the limo lunch will continue to order a lunch from Arby’s. They will eat in the student hub with me where they have their own table to sit at. We will make sure this continues to be a fun lunch with the principal as we celebrate good school choices. I am excited to get to know our students better and celebrate with them!
Racoon Rules Parties
We are continuing to hold these behavior parties each month. We are planning activities that allow students to stay in their grade level pods. This month we played a game outside and enjoyed a popsicle. We have some other great ideas planned for celebrating our school choices in a safe way this year!
Spirit Day
We are continuing to have Spirit Day where we encourage everyone to wear our Rosecrest Shirts. On this day, our fabulous PTA will provide a surprise for those showing school spirit. (Thanks PTA! We appreciate you!) We are planning these for the 1st Thursday of the month. If you are a distance learning student, and would like to come to the office wearing your shirt during lunch time (11:00 – 12:00), we will have a treat waiting.
Halloween
I’m sure many of you have heard the news that Halloween parades are cancelled this year. This is a decision that schools are making to mitigate risk and ensure the safety of our staff and students. Our teachers and PTA have planned a fun filled day that will include:
- Costumes (more information to come)
- Class parties ran by teachers but supported by our PTA via ready to go activities and treats
- A virtual parade that will be posted to our school website later in the day
- Instagram photos on our PTAs instagram account @Rosecrest_PTA. This is a private account, so please identify yourself when requesting access.
- Distance Learners, if you would like to dress up in costume and have your photo placed in our video, please email your photo to me no later than Wed. Oct. 28th.
- If you have opted out of having your child’s image on social media, we will make sure to honor that choice creating a video and taking photos
If you haven’t joined the PTA yet, now would be a great time! They are doing an amazing job supporting us all and will continue to create fun memories for our students during this unprecedented time! If you would like to get involved, please contact Tammy Thornton. She can be reached at tamaramthornton@hotmail.com
PTA Fundraiser Night
September 22nd, PTA is hosting a fundraiser night with Cafe Zupas in Sugarhouse. The fundraiser will run from 5:00 – 9:00. When you go, please let the cashier know you are with Rosecrest. Zupas will then donate a portion of your purchase to our school. Thank you PTA for finding ways to continue fundraising for Rosecrest!
Digital Book Fair
We are hosting a digital book fair this year! It will be open beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22 and close on Friday, Oct. 2nd. More information will be coming home to explain the logistics of our digital book fair. We will also share this information on our website and social media.
SEPs
Thank you for your patience during all of our online scheduler hiccups! Our teachers are excited to touch base with each of you and will be reaching out with details of how to participate in a digital conference. Remember that Friday the 25th is a No School Day for all students. Thursday, September 24th will be a Distance Learning day for all students. Also, remember there is no school for our Kindergarten students on Wednesday, September 23rd.
Boo to the Flu
There are a couple of items regarding Boo to the Flu that I failed to mention last time. This is a flu shot clinic, where families can come to receive flu shots. It will be held from 3:00 – 7:00. Families will enter and exit through the outside gym doors. You will be asked for your insurance card. If you would like to pay out of pocket, the shot is $14 for children under the age of 18 and $35 for adults. If neither of these are ideal options for you, the clinic will work with families to ensure everyone that wants a flu shot can get one. Please remember to wear your mask.
Staying Home when Sick
Our students and faculty are doing a GREAT job at wearing masks and following cleaning protocols. These are two practices we have in place to mitigate potential risk and spread of Covid-19. It is so important that we continue these safe practices to ensure we can continue coming to school. If your child is sick, please keep him/her home that day. Our district guidance is for students to remain at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. This is pre-Covid guidance that we are asking everyone to closely follow this year.
2nd Quarter Declaration Forms
Second quarter begins on Monday, October 26th. Rather than sending out paper forms this time, you may declare your choice by filling out this google form: https://forms.gle/6JhAihuJ9YNFcEo27 You may also choose to make a verbal declaration with your child’s teacher during SEP conferences if you would rather. All declarations will be due October 9th.
Thank you all for your support. I know that this year is unlike anything we have experienced. I recognize that all members of our Rosecrest community are working hard, making sacrifices, demonstrating flexibility and doing their best during a complex situation. We are all here to ensure students continue to learn, grow and make lasting memories.Thank you for your support and patience! Please continue to reach out with any questions or concerns.
