This year Taylorsville Elementary will be focusing on all of our amazing students knowing their math facts. We are asking for your help with this! The best way for students to learn their math facts is to practice at home. We are asking you to help your student by working with them on their math facts for twenty minutes a night. This could be anything from making and practicing with flash cards to playing a multiplication game on a computer with your student.
We understand that learning all of the math facts in any operation is a lot of work but knowing all the facts will make every math class your student takes in the future easier. It is essential to be able to do mental math, especially in a world filled with calculators. Without understanding math facts an answer that is incredibly far from the correct response could seem reasonable. We must know our facts to check if the calculator is correct.
We as a school will be tracking the progress of our students in learning their facts. We will be updating you on your student’s progress and hope that you will take the time to celebrate their hard work in learning these facts. When you see your student’s progress through their math fact tables you should also be congratulated because we can see the most growth when education is a priority at home and school! We thank you again for spending twenty minutes a day working on your facts and making your student’s education important in your home!
