Whittier Parents,
Good morning! Before sharing information about next week’s plan, I want to share my heartfelt condolences to this incredible Whittier community. Yesterday’s events were devastating and a complete tragedy for individuals, families, neighbors, and the entire community. Our hearts are heavy as this hit not only close to home, but within the walls of your own home. Please know our teachers, staff, psych, and social worker are here to support any children who might feel this more deeply. Reach out to us how we can best support your child if you see any signs of concern. We are a family and take care of one another.
As you have heard, Granite School District will be on Distance Learning next week from Tuesday, January 18- Friday, January 21. The purpose is to help slow the spread of this Omicron virus that seems to be spreading like wildfire, including in our community.
I wanted to let you know Whittier’s plans for next week:
The school will be open Tuesday, January 18th from 8:00 am- 3:00 pm for you to come and get the learning materials your children will need for the week. Tables will be labeled for each grade level, and staff to assist you. Your child’s teacher will reach out to you today with specifics for that class. If your child needs to checkout a Chromebook on Tuesday, a responsible adult is required to come and sign for it. If the teacher isn’t using a Chromebook as the learning tool, students are welcome to come in and grab their paper packet. If your child is in resource, Ms. Kirkman and Ms. Worley will have a packet they can pick up. Masks must be worn while in the building.
Parents and students will have access to their teachers all week! Teachers will provide you with a communication tool when they reach out to you today. We want students learning this upcoming week and our goal is to do all we can to continue to support them. Don’t hesitate to contact us for any questions and concerns you have.
I will post a STEAM Activity each Distance Learning Day that can be done at home. These are activities you can use with the materials you already have at home. I’d LOVE to see the cool things your kids come up with. Please send pictures and videos to me at jbodell@graniteschools.org.
I don’t have the information yet on where students can pick-up a breakfast and lunch. I will let you know as soon as I’m given those details.
We appreciate your patience with this ever-changing situation. We will miss your students in the building, but learning will continue, and we plan to see them back on Monday, January 24th.
Kindest Regards,
Jennifer Bodell
