Kindergarten Registration 2023-2024

(for those who have not yet registered)

Dear Future Kindergarten Parents,

Welcome! We are excited to have you in Granite School District and look forward to a fantastic kindergarten school year for your child. The following will help you understand the kindergarten registration process. Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enroll for kindergarten. (Utah Code 53G-4-401)

In order to keep everybody safe, we are doing virtual registration. Please fill out the registration form at the bottom. You will be contacted within a few days to to bring the documents listed below in order to complete the registration process at a scheduled time. If you register in June or later, you will be contacted in late July or early August to complete the paperwork. Your registration is not complete until you have completed this process in person.

Please note that all Kindergarten students will need to undergo state-required Kindergarten testing prior to being placed in a class. We will reach out to parents at the end of July to schedule Kindergarten testing on August 2nd-4th.

Individuals with Disabilities

Granite School District is interested in alleviating any unnecessary stress to individuals with disabilities. When students with disabilities are beginning school for the first time in a Granite school, they and their parents are encouraged to contact the school principal, school social worker, or school psychologist to discuss any concerns they may have about enrollment.

Full-Day Kindergarten (O.E.K. Program)

Granite School District has 37 of our 62 elementary schools offering full-day kindergarten with grant funding. As per district policy, we do not allow for “open enrollment/special permits” in to our full-day kindergarten classes. You will need to live within the boundaries of one of those 37 participating schools for your child to be considered for placement in a full-day class. O.E.K. The guidelines to the grants funding our full-day classes require “at risk” students be placed in those classes based on the State Kindergarten Entry Exit Profile Assessment which will be administered in August.

In addition to the registration card, the following items are required when registering your child:

  • Proof of Residence: We must have a current utility bill, mortgage or lease agreement in the name of the parent or guardian. If you are living with another family, we must have an Affirmation of Residence. (If you are attending on a special permit, you will not need to submit this part.)
