Dear Arcadia Parents/Guardians:
We’re so excited to welcome our students back to school on the 18th. As a reminder, Thursday (18th) and Friday (19th) will be early out days. Students will be let out at 1:15 p.m. on both days. Our regular schedule will resume on Monday, the 22nd. Students will be let out at the normal time (3:20 p.m.). Please spread the word as some parents are not set up for email yet. We have posted this information on the front doors as well.
We have some new teachers this year. They are:
Katherine Morgan – Full day Kindergarten, Chrissy Tea – 1st Grade, Hillary Herbopelis – 1st Grade, Tina Tuifua – 2nd Grade, Lindsay Peterson – 3rd Grade, Brian Wimberly – 3rd Grade, Holly Minshew – 5th Grade and Brooke Snell – Assistant Principal.
Our theme for the year is: “Having a Ball Learning it All.”
Our Vision Statement is: “To inspire students to be intellectual risk takers by teaching respect, resilience, responsibility and kindness in a S.T.E.A.M. focused environment.”
Our Mission Statement is: “Arcadia Elementary School is committed to educating the whole child while providing a safe and nurturing environment that promotes a passion for life-long learning, respect for self and others, and an appreciation for individual differences.”
The District will be grading students on the new Graduate of Granite Standards. These standards are: Respect, Dependability, Communication, Responsibility and Work Ethic & Resilience. Students will receive grades for these standards on each report card along with their regular grades for ELA, Math, etc.
We have a new Math program this year. It is called iReady. Teachers will no longer use the Go Math program that you may be used to.
On the first day of school, please find your student’s grade level door and have him/her line up in front of it. There will be teachers and staff around the building to help you in case you get lost/confused.
As a reminder, there is NO PARKING OR DROPPING OFF/PICKING UP IN THE BUS ZONE AT ANY TIME. You may park in the east parking lot or the church parking lot. Please remember to be civil to one another and to the crossing guard. Also, students MUST use the crosswalk. They are not allowed to cross the street to be picked up/dropped off.
Remember that Back-to-School Night is next Tuesday, the 16th from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. There will be light refreshments and you will be able to meet and greet your child’s teacher(s) in their classrooms. Please be cognizant of time. If you need to discuss something in-depth, please schedule a separate time with the teacher on a future day.
The newest bus stop schedule is attached. If your student rides the bus, please remind him/her that the bus is like a traveling classroom and the same rules apply on the bus. Students need to sit in their seat the entire time and speak with a normal voice. Riding the bus is a privilege that can be taken away so students need to act respectfully at all times during transport.
Lastly, the new edition of the Student Handbook will be on the school’s website soon. Please take some time to read it with your student(s). Important information is contained within that you and your student(s) will need to know in order to have a successful year.
On behalf of the teachers and staff, thank you for your continued support and help. We love our students and the community and look forward to serving them during the upcoming year.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me (mgraham@graniteschools.org) or Brooke Snell, the assistant principal (bsnell@graniteschools.org) or call the office and ask to speak with one of us. Here’s to a great 2022-23 school year!
Sincerely,
Matthew Graham, Principal
