Dear Parents/Guardians:
I wanted to send out a reminder email for a few things that you need to be aware of. They are as follows:
- Our crossing guard asked me to remind you that, when she is standing in the middle of the road with her stop sign, it is not a suggestion to stop or a four way stop. Parents/guardians need to obey the stop sign until she and the students crossing are out of the street.
- We had our Quarterly Principal’s Party yesterday and it was so much fun! I posted pictures on our Facebook page if you would like to see them.
- I sent the following message home today. You should have received an orange note in your child’s backpack concerning Halloween reminders. The message was:

Halloween Day Reminders for Parents & Students
The Halloween Parade will be at 9:30 a.m. outside the school on Monday, October 31st. Parents/guardians are invited to sit or stand by their student’s outside door. We will walk around the school twice picking up classes at their grade level doors starting with Kindergarten and Preschool on the east side.
Please keep in mind that the following are not allowed:
- Masks and costumes that cover up students’ faces
- Fake weapons including knives, guns, swords, etc.
- Excessively gory/bloody makeup on the face or body
- Inappropriate costumes portraying or glorifying anything illegal
- Skimpy or immodest costumes that expose the midriff or are shorter than fingertip length
If you have a question about a costume, please ask Mr. Graham or Ms. Snell. Every year, we have students who show up in costumes that violate the restrictions listed above. We want to avoid hurt feelings and disappointment by having parents make sure their students comply with costume rules.
Thanks in advance for your help and support. We’re looking forward to our Halloween Day activities. See you at the parade!
- There is no school tomorrow, Friday, October 28, 2022 for students. Teachers will be in trainings all day and finalizing grades.
- We have an attendance problem at our school. There were 1,564 absences from the beginning of school until now. Students simply cannot learn the concepts they need to if they are not at school. Of course, if a student is ill, he/she needs to stay home until they are symptom free; however, if students are missing for any other reason, we need your help as parents to get them to school and ensure they continue coming every day. Many students are way behind because of the pandemic. We need all the time we can get with them to help them catch up. Please do your part in making sure they are at school consistently.
- PTA’s Kindness Week initiative starts on Monday. I have attached the schedule for your convenience and encourage you to have your child participate in this fun challenge. I will announce every day what the students’ challenge is for the day and we will culminate the week’s activities by tying red ribbons on the fence by the bike rack in a show of solidarity and resolve to be kind to one another throughout the year.
I hope to see you at the Halloween parade on Monday. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Matthew Graham, Principal, Arcadia Elementary
