Good afternoon parents,
I know that you have not been hearing from me as much lately, but as the year is coming to an end I will be bugging you a lot. We are approaching the end of year for which I have very mixed feelings. I hope that some of the transitions will help you and your children to feel some closure. This is going to be a long email so please hang in there with me.
Personal item pick-up and Chromebook return
We will be bagging up all of your child’s personal belongings from their desks and getting them ready for you to come and pick-up. I thought it might be a great time for each of the following to occur:
- Return library books that you may still have at home.
- Return any of the teachers items if you still have them. (books, other learning supplies)
- Check the lost and found.
- Pick-up personal items.
- Return chromebooks and their charging cords. Please know that you are more than welcome to keep the chromebook over the summer if you feel that your child needs to complete work they have not had the opportunity to do so while we have been experiencing distance learning. If you are more than ready to be done with school we would love to have them back so that we can prepare them for the fall.
- Please tape a piece of paper to the front of the chromebook with your childs name and teacher name on it.
To facilitate this process I have created a schedule where you will sign up for a time to come with all of your children at once to complete the above procedures. You will select a 15 minute time slot from on the three days, May 19, 20, and 21. Please click on the following link to sign up for your schedule appointment. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0A4CABA62DAB9-endofyear We will not be allowing anyone into the building, this will all occur in the front of the school.
Learning opportunities for the next few weeks
This week I have asked the teacher to allow this week for students to get all caught up on missing work and to complete Math and English Benchmarks. Please ensure that your child takes this opportunity to finish assessments at the very least. This is what will be entered into the report card to determine a pass or incomplete for the quarter. It is very important that you do not assist your children in completing these tests. We need to know what they know and where their learning holes for next year.
Since most of you will be turning in your Chromebooks during the last week. I have asked teachers to create a last week packet for each of your children. They will return them to their new teacher in the fall. These packets will be in the bags with your student’s personal items.
Lexia and STMath will continue to be available to your students over the summer. This is a great way to keep their minds active and learning each day.
End of Year Parade
We are going to do a reverse parade for the end of year. We as a staff have missed your children very, very much and would love a chance to see them one last time before the official summer break begins. On May 15 we would love you to drive by and give your teachers a wave. We have changed the location for this parade. We will be meeting at Valley Regional Softball Complex located at 5135 S. 2775 W. from 9 – 11 am. Please drive through the North parking lot that is located near the children play area. Teachers will park their cars and stand out by the back to the cars and wave. You will need to enter into the parking lot from 2700 W, then loop around the parking lot and then turn right back on to 2700. We are soooo excited to see you.
Kindergarten Registration
We know that we are still missing several of your kindergarten registrations. Please click on the following link to begin the registration process. https://www.graniteschools.org/curriculuminstruction/early-childhood/#kindergarten-registration
Please tell your friends and neighbors to come and register as well. We are so excited to meet our new kindergarteners. As you may have guessed, kindergarten orientation has been postponed. We will keep you informed.
Report Cards for 4th Quarter and class assignment for next year
The grading period for 4th quarter will end on May 22nd. Teachers will then be going through all of the assessments and entering grades. Report cards will be posted in the parent portal and gradebook on June 11th. We will also put a hard copy in the mail on June 11th along with your child’s class assignment for next year.
Teacher appreciation week
Thank you so much for all the amazing support you gave to our teachers last week. I know that there were many tears shed during the week. They felt so appreciated by your generousity and kindness.
Not returning to Calvin Smith????
If you will not be returning to Calvin Smith next year please let us know by emailing tbhughes@graniteschools.org or call the school at 385-646-5020.
