Dear Families,
We are thrilled to begin the 2022-2023 school year! There is a lot of excitement in the air at Cottonwood as we start a new school year. I love being a part of a dynamic staff of dedicated, talented, caring and committed educators and we are excited to be working with our wonderful and brilliant students. One of Cottonwood’s greatest strengths is our wonderful family and community support. As parents, guardians and family, you are your child’s first and greatest teacher. Together, working as a mutually trusted and respected team, we can accomplish great things!
Thank you parents for helping make school a top priority and getting your children to school on-time, prepared with all items, including their lunches. All students should be at school and in their lines by the time the bell to bring them in rings at 8:35. Speaking of lunches, as a reminder, we are asking that “special” lunches like McDonalds, Little Caesars, Jimmy Johns, etc., be saved for the weekends at home. As fun as these may be, it does cause a lot of feelings and stress among our student body and families. Thank you for understanding. We do have some yummy school lunches for students. I know they’re yummy because I eat them on a regular basis. I don’t have time to fix me a lunch in the morning as I am rushing to get myself and my children out the door. Lunches are $1.50. If you need help setting up a lunch account, please call Julie Goodrich, our lunch secretary, at 385-646-4798. She can help set up accounts and/or apply for free/reduced for those that qualify.
We all want to thank you in advance for your help as we manage our drop-off and pick-up procedures. We truly appreciate your willingness to follow procedures so that we can keep all students safe. When dropping off or picking up your children from school please use the front (west) parking lot, do not leave your car unattended, and remain attentive (cell phones are a no-no during drop off/pick up). We need for cars to continue pulling forward to help keep the back up to a minimum. Questions you may have regarding drop off/pick up might be answered by clicking here.
As with every school year, as students come back to school, we see anxiety (tummy aches , head aches, fatigue, etc.). This is a hectic time for our little students and we want to help them navigate through the uncertainty as much as possible. We have a wonderful social worker here at Cottonwood that is ready to help. Should you have any concerns regarding the mental health of your child, please reach out to Julia Shively, jsshively@graniteschools.org. She is at our school on M, W, Th, and F.
We ask that you please stay current with the events going on at Cottonwood by bookmarking our web site, http://schools.graniteschools.org/cottonwood. A lot of questions can be answered through our wonderful website! Also, be sure to stay connected through our social media sites: Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. You can access links to all of these sites from our website. We post our weekly Cottonwood Broadcasting System (CBS) News on our YouTube page! It is full of weekly information as well as a “Whip-Around” of the past. Also, every teacher has a website designed to help you and answer questions that you may have. You can find links to teacher sites by visiting Cottonwood’s website as well.
Thank you for your support in being partners in education. I believe that a love of learning, high academic achievement and parental involvement are keys to a lifelong education. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or myself with questions, comments, and kudos.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cooper
