January 27, 2025Uncategorized

Dear Cottonwood Family,

Will we have 6 more weeks of winter? Will the groundhog see his shadow? In my honest opinion, as much as I hate the cold, we need more snow—6 more weeks, please! We all know that weather conditions here in Salt Lake City can be tricky. Students can walk out the door in the morning with a beautiful outlook on the day, and within just a few short minutes, we can have bitter cold wind, rain, snow, etc. The fact of the matter is, we still have 6 weeks of winter. We always try to make sure there are as many outdoor days as possible. We watch the temperature, conditions, and particulates in the air very closely. Please help us keep students playing outside by sending them with warm gear.

When temperatures are below 20° (actual temperature and real feel), and/or the air quality index is poor, we follow guidelines and keep students inside. Outside of these guidelines, we try to allow students outside as much as possible. With this in mind, we want to remind all families that students should not arrive to school before 8:20, if possible. In addition, students need to be picked up from school no more than 10 minutes after the dismissal bell. This is extremely critical as we only have teacher supervision available 15 minutes before school and 10 minutes after school. If you have any questions or circumstances that need assistance beyond this, please contact the school and speak with me.

With the third term well underway, we want to thank everyone for your continued support of our students, teachers, and school as we collectively strive to provide the best learning opportunities for your children each and every day. We also want to thank our families for your diligence in having your students at school on time and well-prepared for learning each day. In addition, please continue to be mindful that our students’ academic day begins at the first bell and continues until dismissal each afternoon. Please remember that Fridays are still academic learning days. Please contact your teacher(s) should you have any questions.

Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with families during SEP Conferences. If you haven’t scheduled a conference time, please contact the office to schedule. We want 100% attendance and participation at conferences this term!

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 13th (no school on Friday, February 14th). All Valentines must be store-bought! We want all students to be able to participate in this fun day. Should you need assistance with Valentines or boxes, please contact me ASAP! I am happy to help!

I love each and every one of the students here at Cottonwood and their parents. I love my job, and I love you! Thank you for supporting Cottonwood and being a partner in your child’s education! Should you ever have any questions, concerns, or just want to chat, please visit with me. My door is always open (most of the time). I LOVE visiting and getting to know parents!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Cooper
