Classroom AI & Technology Policy
In our classroom, we value authentic student voices, big ideas, and original thinking. While most of our learning happens away from screens through reading, writing, and hands-on activities, we occasionally use district-approved AI tools (SchoolAI and Google Gemini) to enhance our learning.
How Your Teacher Uses AI
As your teacher, I use AI as a behind-the-scenes helper to make our classroom run smoothly:
- Making Learning Accessible: I use AI to adjust reading levels on articles, create visual aids, and generate extra examples so every student gets the support they need.
- Classroom Organization: I use AI for logistical tasks like building student groups, designing seating charts, and planning daily activities.
Human-First Decisions: I never use AI to grade student work, handle behavioral issues, or make academic placement determinations. I only use district-approved tools that strictly protect student privacy.
How Students Will Use AI
When students use AI, it is always guided, purposeful, and safe. We only use district-approved tools with student data privacy agreements in place. These are our classroom rules related to student Ai use::
- Wait for the Green Light: Students may only use AI when I give explicit permission for specific parts of an assignment (like brainstorming or outlining).
- Ideas, Not Answers: AI is a tool for exploration. The final writing, problem-solving, and original thoughts must always belong to the student.
- Be Honest: Students must always cite or acknowledge if AI helped them brainstorm ideas. Submitting AI-generated work as original student work is not permitted.
