The power of a great education liberates us from ignorance, poverty, unneeded animosity, bigotry, and a host of other social, emotional, and spiritual pitfalls. Education tempers our disposition and leads us to consider another point of view besides our own. When disagreement occurs, a well-educated person seeks to understand and then be understood. Education breeds a vision beyond our self interests and instills in us a desire to build a cooperative community.
My teachers understand how vital cooperation is. Two minds are usually better than one and when focused on such a noble cause, the passing of civilization on to the next generation, we blend our skills and over time, instill in students the foundation leading to higher education. The structure of Morningside has changed with 6th grade moving on to junior high (mostly), but the passion, intelligence and dedication of our teachers and staff has not changed. We get kids to grow.
Recent data released from the state office of education shows our teachers (spread through all three programs) produce exceptional student growth. We are climbing higher. Our superintendent, Dr. Bates, recently visited me and asked how do Morningside teachers do it? I told him, “Our teachers care enough to get to know their students, determine what our students’ abilities and knowledge levels are, and work tirelessly and intelligently to move them along to the success.” Of course, our greatest partners are you, the parents and family of our students. Thank you for helping us climb higher.
