As a Community Council we have been discussing ways to help our students have sufficient nutrition and energy to allow students to concentrate throughout the day. With our teacher’s support we have decided to pilot a new school-wide snack policy. Beginning Tuesday, January 21, all students will be given an opportunity to eat a small snack during the school day. If you would like your child to have a snack, please send them with a non-liquid, healthy snack that does not require refrigeration. Samples of healthy snacks include granola bars, trail mix, string cheese, fruits, vegetables, etc. Please don’t send candy, cookies, juice, or items that give a quick rush of sugar and offer few health benefits. Our Community Council and faculty will revisit this policy after several months to assess compliance, cleanliness, and classroom environment.
If you have questions about how this will be implemented in your child’s class, please reach out to their teacher for specific details of how it will be handled in their classroom.
