Morningside Mitigating Measures for COVID-19

School Schedule
• Regular classroom instruction will take place on a Monday through Friday schedule.
• Office hours: M-Th 8:00-4:30, Friday 8-3:30
• Meetings such as IEPs, 504s, SEPs, etc. may be in-person or virtual based on preference and availability.
Monitoring Symptoms
• Students/staff who are demonstrating ANY symptom of COVID-19 must stay home.
• Keep contact numbers current as parents will be contacted by the school demonstrating symptoms.
• Case counts will be monitored by the county health department dashboard.
• Students or staff that are exposed to COVID-19 will work with the health department regarding quarantine. Those who are exposed will NOT be quarantined if: they had a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 90 days, have been fully vaccinated, the positive individual and the exposed individual were both wearing masks at the time of exposure, or if non-immunized they wear a mask for 10 days following exposure.
• Our goal is to keep children healthy while attending school in-person.
Masks
• Per health department recommendations, masks are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED for all students and staff while indoors, but NOT required.
• Masks will be available to students and staff upon request.
• Harassment in any form, directed either at those who wear face coverings or those who choose not to, will not be tolerated.
Enhanced Environment Hygiene and Safety
• Schools will remain mindful of cleanliness to the highest degree possible.
• Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times per hour) will continue.
• Cleaning and disinfecting of high touch surfaces will occur throughout the day.
• Hand sanitizer will be available.
Social Distancing
• In all areas of our school, we will remain mindful of safe spacing to the highest degree possible.
• Cohorts of students will be maintained to the greatest extent possible in all areas of the school to ensure student safety.
Entrance/Exits
o Designate entry/exit flow paths
o Hand sanitizer available for entry/exit points
o One class enters at a time keeping appropriate spacing
o Beginning and end of school day: utilize all outside entry doors to the
school (north end, south end, bathroom, and cafeteria)

Hallways
o Apply markers on the floor marking flow pattern and distancing in
hallways
o Classes will walk single file through the hallways when transition in and
out of the classroom to reduce congestion
o Clean high-touch hallway surfaces regularly throughout the day
o Minimize/monitor congregation of students with adult supervision
o Stagger transitions to limit the number of students moving through
hallways
Classrooms
o Assigned seating in the classroom
o Maximize space between seating/desks
o Classroom cleaning bucket with supplies/sprayer
o Used rags container
o Student water bottles (brought from home) and bottle fillers on our water
fountains
o Individual student books/supplies kept at each desk – no sharing
o Individual supplies for students- no sharing
o Doors open to minimize touch surface and support air flow
o Chromebooks assigned and cleaned after use
o Classroom air filters upgraded to MERV14
o Individual student manipulatives when possible, with scheduled
sanitation of manipulatives after each use
o Backpacks are allowed and encouraged. Parents are encouraged to
regularly wash student backpacks
Lunchroom
o Floor markings and signage to designate serving line flow paths
o Sanitize tables after each student
o Increase cleaning & disinfecting of high touch surfaces between grade
levels
o Assigned seating in the lunchroom
o Reduce # of students seated at a table/assigned seats, allow for
distancing when eating
o Regularly wash lunch wagon canvas covers if used
o Students recording their milk purchase will be able to use a clean pen
and put the used pen in a “dirty” pen basket
o No sharing food tables
Playground
o Limit more than one grade level at short recess at one time
o Schedule lunch recesses to keep grade level students on different areas
of the playground/field/blacktop
o Alternate use of outdoor spaces/class assigned to designated area of
play. Playground duties will monitor playground activities
Group gathering areas
o Limit nonessential assemblies
o Option to record assemblies to be viewed in classrooms/at home
o Limit number of students in large areas to allow for spacing
