Dear Oakridge Family and Community:
Thank you to all of you who have already generously supported the Oakridge Technology Capital Campaign. In our first week through December 4, we have raised $3,094 from 20 supporters. We are already more than 15% towards our goal of $20,000! Let’s keep it rolling!
I wanted to take this opportunity to describe our outdated technology impediments at Oakridge Elementary and how the new MimioPro 4 interactive displays by Boxlight® as well as teacher laptops will increase students’ engagement, collaboration, productivity and creativity. Our current technology requires a lot of time troubleshooting which often interferes with students’ learning. Our students’ Chromebooks do not connect to the unreliable Smart Boards in our classrooms and inhibit collaboration. With your help, we are hoping to replace the Smart Boards with 75” MimioPros.

Additionally, we hope to purchase new laptops to replace outdated desktops for all the teachers and eventually all of the specialists and paraeducators. Laptops will give teachers mobility while preparing, enhancing, and discussing lessons during their daily grade level meetings. Teachers will be able to increase their proficiency with access to quick and accurate student data collection and retrieval, which informs instruction and increases student outcomes. More quality time can be spent on creating interactive and engaging instruction and not on troubleshooting antiquated technology.
Students collaborate with their peers by showing their work and explaining their thought processes. For example, the newly adopted i-Ready math program encourages students to use multiple mathematical strategies to solve a single math equation. The MimiPros will allow up to nine examples of students’ work to be digitally displayed to the front of the class, without toggling back and forth between two different programs. i-Ready also has interactive digital tools that can be used in the front of the classroom helping students think abstractly and conceptually about math.
With MimioPro tools, teachers have the ability to create and deliver engaging lessons where students interact with their classmates and teacher at their desks or the front of the classroom. The classroom becomes mobile and effective instruction can take place anywhere. Teachers can roam the room and address individual student’s needs while continuing the whole group lesson on the electronic display. Teachers can use tablets/laptops to facilitate small group lessons in different parts of the classroom, while continuing to project important information to the front of the class.
Technology can power up learning. As you can see from the Demonstration Video , adding an interactive element to the classroom and engagement and excitement increases.
On behalf of the teachers and staff at Oakridge Elementary, thank you for your support and ongoing commitment to our awesome kids.
Appreciatively,
Joy Nielson
