During these unprecedented times the students of Skyline High have had to struggle with obstacles that we have never seen before and none of us were prepared to deal with.
With that said, the faculty and administration of Skyline have come together to offer a number of ways for students that struggled during the 2020-2021 school year to recover credits and get back on track to graduate.
There are three options
- Every teacher at Skyline has put together a pathway to credit for each of their classes for each of the last 5 quarters. Students should be taking advantage of this opportunity to get these credits.
- Summer school, we will be hosting summer school here at Skyline through the first part of the summer. There will be three sessions of summer school this summer
1st session- June 14th to the 24th
2nd session- June 28th to July 8th
3rd session- July 12th to the 22nd
- Credit recovery– This will also be during the summer, you will get a packet and will have to work on recovering the credit with our credit recovery team.
*There will be some credit recovery options during the school year next year and the current plan is to hold summer school next year as well to get all of our students on track to graduate.
Summer School
Summer school is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to do experiential learning. We are going to be working on the essential standards for each subject, in addition we each class will be leaving Skyline for an experience unique to that course. Some examples of what our teachers are working on are
- English will be watching a movie at the Megaplex theatres
- P.E. will be going to Top Golf
- The language and culture classes will be cooking food from the culture that they are learning about
- The art classes will be going to a museum.
- Math classes will be giving away gift certificates for students that reach certain learning targets.
In addition we will have donuts, drinks and other treats for the students on random days as well as a raffle once a week where any student in class can win prizes.
Registration for summer school will start with the 1st session and we will go to the second session when the first is full. There will only be a second session if the first is full, once the second session is full we will move onto the third session, we will not be able to schedule for convenience.
Each session will be split up onto to time periods
1st period- 8am to 10 am
2nd period- 10 am to 12pm
This will allow students to work with two different teachers each day if they need to.
Students will need to see which credits they can get taken care of here and which they need to get through credit recovery or summer school next year
F.A.Q’s
- Will I get a grade from summer school?
No, this is a pass fail class. Once you have shown proficiency in the core standards you will receive a P on your transcript.
- Will this remove the F from my transcript?
No, this is credit recovery. Summer school will get you credit that will get you back on track to graduate.
- Do I have to come to summer school every day?
No, summer school is like regular school. You have to get the work done in order to get the credit. If you miss a day you should email your teacher so you know what you missed and what you can do to stay on track.
- What do I have to do to get credit?
You need to participate in summer school and show proficiency in the core standards of the course for the quarters that you failed. Each class will be different but each teacher will let you know specifically what you need to achieve to get credit.
- Does Summer school cost money?
No, the federal government has sent stimulus money to use to help students who have been hurt by the pandemic. There is no cost to summer school for any student. This includes the experiential learning portion of each class.
